I'm not asking this to create a panic run on stators or VRs... As I read recent posts re: stator and VR issues, I find myself wondering if these parts are specific to 1203cc Buell engine or do they cross reference with other H-D or other motorcycle applications? I know American Sport Bike carries them (and I almost ordered one of each as a 'JIC' while ordering other stuff this week) but as time goes on, will their 'in-stock' status begin to fade if they are specific to the Buell parts bin only? Any crystal ball owners have a hunch or suspicion? |

Someone here transplanted an XB charging system to his tuber. Sounds like it would work in reverse with sporty parts. |

The XB does have its own specific stator, but even 30 years down the road if you needed a replacement they can be repaired/rewound in the aftermarket. Due to the shortage of 1125R stators some have gone that route, $150 and it possibly is better than the stock one. The same story with the VR, it is XB specific but worst comes to worse a universal aftermarket one with the right connectors and long enough wires will work. |

I just ordered my Stator/VR from AmericanSportBike.com, they didn't have them in stock on Monday but they may have them today. It may be prudent to buy both and have them on hand, because when they fail, it's a bit of a wait to get a new one. Don't ignore the warning signs, power fluctuations/surges in the headlights, hard starts, etc... It takes all of 10 minutes to pull the stator connector under the pully cover and plug it into your ohm meter and see if it's putting out the proper voltage. When the stator fails, smell the tranny oil, you will know immediatly if it's fried or not. |
