The fan went south at 14,000 miles and was sounding bad for about a month. Ordered a new one from American Sport Bike, $86 delivered.

Just a heads up for those of you with the rider comfort kit installed, replacing the fan becomes a pain in the ass. If I had known probably would have bought a new fan before installing the kit.

Did you get the new fan logic after the comfort kit install?

His profile says he has an 06, which means he did not get the new fan logic, as it's only for 08+.

Wonder what would happen if we just let these fans die out. I was disappointed by the hype-marketing used to justify fans turning on when the engine shuts down to keep the rear cylinder head/oil from frying. Bogus!
My fan comes on only when really hot or standing still in traffic. Usually never. It promptly shuts down when some airflow gets going down there. Variations of this v twin have been running just fine for decades, in hot weather, with crappy oil, with dinky or no oil coolers and without fans and gizmos like that. True, contemporary Buells cover those heads up much more than earlier model/more naked Harley's and other big-bore air-cooled V twin bikes, but as long as they are moving and well lubricated. . . . should be ok.
What do yu'all think? Cool looking modern but ultimately not critical gizmo, or absolutely necessary component of a many-mile Buell motor?

I think that the rear cylinder being so wrapped up by the frame is why you need the extra air flow created by the fan. Also years of other V twins were not producing 100 horse power which creates heat. And I am sure other components reap the benefit of the extra air flow.

When I replaced my fan I had my underseat shroud out in about 1 minute and back in about 10 minutes without removing anything.

Considering the rear rocker leak I have now I'll probably have to do it again soon, my new fan is drenched in oil.
