I just bought a new 1200GS to keep the XB12XT company. I think they like each other.

Congrats... It is a fine combo. Going from one to the other enhances the appreciation of each. |

Nice! Is your XT and 09? Please let us know how they compare. You have a very nice pair of bikes there. Love the color red! Thanks. |

Maybe they can get together and have twins. One could be the most awesome machine in the world and the other one could be a Harley K model!! |

Tootal, Don't be ridiculous... anyone with half a brain can see that both of those bikes are male. |

Although, come to think of it, the GS may be a female, what with those big jugs sticking out and all... |

you have to admit though that the Uly is by far the better looking bike. Those German designers have an issue with curvatious lines. I've never warmed up to that jagged, edgey look. Never the less, two awesome bikes! |

Very nice bike. I must say, I'm kind of surprised by all the Badwebbers already buying other brands of bikes. Would you have been looking seriously at the 2011 Buells now if the closure hadn't happened, or were you specifically looking to try something else? |

Would you have been looking seriously at the 2011 Buells now if the closure hadn't happened, or were you specifically looking to try something else? I was going to keep the Uly forever (well, I am still keeping it) and was not really interested in another ADV type bike (after having ridden BMW GS, KTM, etc.) Then Ducati brought out the MTS 1200... So for me it wasn't so much the demise of Buell, but the new bike from Ducati. --Doc P.S. Oh yeah, I guess the four CONSECUTIVE times Mrs. Greg had to come and rescue me had something to do with it... |

So jealous! Please give a comparison of the two when you get chance. I have really been intrigued by the BMW's lately. |

The GS is certainly a well respected and popular motorcycle in certain circles. I have only had the opportunity to ride one once. I took a fairly short test ride at a BMW dealer. I will say that I don't believe my test ride was long or varied enough to form a firm opinion, but it was long enough for me to buy the Uly instead. The negatives for me were less grunt down low and an uncomfortable seating position. as far as the engine impression goes, perhaps I am just too used to high torque, low rpm motors, but I felt like I had to wind out the GS more for the same performance. I was expecting more, to be honest. Perhaps, though, it was just that the GS revs higher and I wasn't using the engine properly. The seating position issue was for me it felt like the seat was making me slide forward onto the tank. I felt like I was constantly having to push myself back to maintain my seating position. I would probably get used to the power delivery on the GS with a bit more riding time and there is probably a seat fix for the GS. Still, I enjoyed the test rides I did on the XT and X better. There are tons more GS's out there than Buells, however, so I guess I am in a pretty small minority. |

I'm thinking about it because I fear that in the near future, I'll need something like an ECM or a stator, and it'll be months before it's available. However, so far, I haven't seen anything that moves me like the Uly. When I've ridden the GS, it's felt way too, dunno, 'disconnected'? 'abstract'? from the surface. Part of it's the telelever, part of it's the frame based cowl (I hate how the forks just disappear down into plastic) and part of is is the torque loss. The Duc is gorgeous, but I'd probably kill myself on it or drop it and cost myself a grand. Maybe the new Triumphs will turn my key... |

""I'm thinking about it because I fear that in the near future, I'll need something like an ECM or a stator, and it'll be months before it's available"" Agreed! I don't believe for a minute HD will continue making Buell parts for 5 or 7 years (whatever the published number was). Once they decide to stop - they'll just stop - period. . |

I'll try to get an unbiased comparison test done shortly. The 2010 GS Dynos at 88ft lbs at 6,000rpm. One thing I know for sure, the BMW excels at long trips and the XB12XT is great for shorted rides (although I just completed a 5,000 mile Mexico trip with it) like to and from work. Also, neither of these bikes will win a beauty contest. |

Several of you have emailed me about my tail bag. Its a Cortech sport bike bag, sells for about $50 online. Mounts good and works great.

I think the looks of these bikes has to grow on you. When I first started looking at the GS I thought it was the ugliest bike made. Now I am neutral on its looks. Of course, when I first noticed the GS I was a die hard cruiser rider, something I no longer am. I also thought the HD Electra Glide was hideous. Now I am neutral on that bike's looks as well. It is all in what you get used to I think. I don't think my XT looks all that great with the Journey bags on, I like the looks of the Outdoorsman bags better, but I have Journey bags, so I am getting used to the look. I enjoy riding the bike so much though, it doesn't really matter what it looks like. Congrats again, I am sure you will enjoy your new bike. |

So while we're on the subject of new bikes....I've been thinking 'what next'? What would someone who loves the Uly but needed to move on get? I mentioned my opinion of the GS, and the new Tiger adventure could be appealing....but last month's Rider mag had a review of the KTM SMT...and that looks VERY much like the sort of thing for a Uly person. Don't know if i care for the soft bags but the rest sure seems appealing. Any of you looked at this bike? |

The Ktm 990Smt is on my list in the next year. I don't want to get flamed, but the HD xr1200x is on my list too. Keeping the Uly of course. |

I think Dr. Greg has the right idea with the new Multistrada. But I hope by the time my Uly is worn out, Erik Buell Racing has a new 'Pikes Peak' or 'dakar' adventure touring rotax beast! And FWIW, I love the looks of the Uly and GS's. Not a big fan of the V-strom or KTM adventures though. That new yamaha variant looks great too. |

I have to say this but as good as the duck is, it's huge money for mere mortals like myself. I got my XB12X for $12K and that's really the upper limit for me. My car was $14500 and my house was $88000 (originally). |

No way a poor working man like me could spend the money these new bikes cost. I got my Uly as a 2 year left over so I'll be keeping it a while until I could find a left over KTM or Yamaha big TEN. |
