I have 3200 miles on the factory rear Pirelli Diablo Strada rear tire and it’s almost worn out. I’m down to the wear bars that are just off center and on the side of the tire. The tire has worn out sooner and is also more feathered than I have ever seen on any bike. The bike is ridden normally not raced and no track days. I thought this tire was supposed to be a high mileage tire. Is this abnormal or are others having to replace their tire this soon? By the way, the front looks fine. |

I took this picture yesterday. Not focused on the tire but you can see it. I will run out to the parking lot and get a fresh one. Anyway, 14,000 miles. Near the end, but still has life in it:

5K on the Strada is all I could get. They were wore down big time at 5K. After two tires wearing the same, I switched to Road Attacks. I was able to get approximately 5.5K from the rears but the front cupped badly. My latest set are Dunlop Roadsmarts. I have approx. 1.5K and they still look brand new. I recently gave them a good workout in the twisties and they felt nice. |

WOW Froggy, 14,000 and I'll be surprised if I get 3,500 out of mine. You are the man! BTW, I like your on bike entertainment center. |

Swapped the Stradas at 5.3k, the sides were fully worn out, much worse than your pics. Yours seem to be worn down the center?.. mine had lots of center left, just nothing left on either side of the hard center. The front tire was the same, just not as severe. Had a second puncture flat and decided I'd rather change tires than do a second repair in the same area (within 1/2"). The center of the tire had plenty of meat left, was a sizeable difference and really began to feel it on grated bridges, grooved roads and expansion seams. Constantly thought the pressure might be too low and even tried upping it 4 psi, which just made 'em slide exiting corners. The Angels are wearing much more normally after a little more than 3k. Think they'll go 7 or 8k. (Message edited by tiltcylinder on August 09, 2010) |

My Strada has almost 9K and I'm planning on replacing it before winter. Probably go with an Angel as I hear that they're a higher mileage tire than the Strada. |

Froggy - Anyway, 14,000 miles. Near the end, but still has life in it Froggy, I had my doubts before but now I'm sure of it. You don't know it but you've got a fairy godmother filling up you tank and changing your tires when you're not looking. |

Take a zero off and you are pretty close to my experience. |

I would ride it down to Georgia so you can see it at Buelltoberfest, but I have a rule that I don't take the same bike to Georgia twice. I end up wrecking or replacing the bike first... (Buelltoberfest 1, Uly) (Buelltoberfest 2, SS) (Buelltoberfest 3, CR) Now that I think about it, I had minor spills at all three... Perhaps I should leave my 1125R at home. |

Let's put 2 and 2 together here as well. It should explain a bit on tire wear. Keep in mind, I could be way off base too. Froggy get's some of the best gas mileage and now some of the best tire mileage. That is not a fluke as I found much better tire wear when using some of Froggy's techniques for mileage. Many don't realize how much tire wear is attributed to hard braking and acceleration. Most of us downshift and engine break as well as get on the hammer quite often and that will cause tire wear. I would find it no coincidence that someone that hyper-miles his bike will also have great tire mileage. Am I off base here? Or does that make sense? |

I do have to say that most of my curve riding is on some sort of hill / mountain, not on flat land. |

I got 12k out of a Strada rear on my X1 and it had life left in it, even after riding about 500 interstate miles with 24 psi (yes - im an idiot) Changed the Strada front at 21k and it had life left as well, I just don't like to push my limits with front tires. The X1 has another set of Stradas now, the set that came on my XB12XT from the factory. They have about 2000 Uly miles on them, along with 1000 X1 miles now. No obvious wear other than the little scraps from the molding process are gone I ride both bikes like I stole them, BUT I only weigh 135 lbs which most likely contributes to maximum tire life.. |

Oh I agree. Riding styles have a lot to do with it. Froggy is also slightly smaller than me. |

I had stradas on the 08, I loved them. The tire wears fast, but it does what it is designed to do. I just put an angel on the front, (I am not impressed). The bike corners like it is on a gyroscope. But I came into a fast hard corner, and I could feel the bike creeping towards the center line. I pulled the corner at 70, not an unusual speed, and when I stopped, I looked at the new chicken strip on the front wheel, and there were no marks. The compound is too hard. (IMHO). I did like the stradas. Just my .02 |

My original set went 7500 miles, and still had life left when I swapped them. My second set didn't even last 4500 miles and I ended up stranded, showing cords down the middle on the rear. I won't be buying another pair. I still have the front, and it's okay at around 5500. (rear right now is a Shinko 006 sportbike tire that I got cheap when I was stranded). My next set of tires is probably either going to be PR2's or Shinko 009's. |

Froggy, do you always haul your TV around with you? Some sort of chick magnet maybe? My stock Diablo Strada rear will be completely shot at 5 -6,000 miles. Most of the time, I accelerate like an old man compared to some people and the center of my tire is at least 2/3 gone at 4,000 miles. Unfortunately, I need to ride about 40 miles on flat straight roads just to get to some nice curvy roads. Thanks. |

There's got to be some other factors at work here that's not being considered. I have 6K on the Stradas with little wear showing yet. Don't torture the bike but don't baby it either. How about road surfaces, are some people riding in a more abrasive environment? ( leave the wife out of this ) |

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty easy on the bike. I like corners, to amuse myself I tend to square them off, mostly because i love getting on the throttle exiting a tight turn. Otherwise, no wheelies (well almost never , no stoppies, no burnouts or powerslides. Regularly getting 49.5 miles to the gallon. Maybe it's riding in the rain... do a lot of that... disolving them like powdered sugar? |

I got about 6k out of a rear, 7k out of Scorpion Sync rear. About to throw on some Shinko ravens on Got one on the front now. |

Road surface had a lot to do with it in my case. I was running high speeds in really hot weather on chipseal roads that were like a grinding wheel. Still, I've done that on other tires and never had a set wear out like that. For what the Stradas cost, I think there are better options. |

Idunno. I have 5500 on my original stradas and they look about like Froggy's. Seems to me that tire pressure is key. I rode to San Diego recently and the changes in elevation made it fun adjusting tire pressure at every gas stop. That also affects mileage, so... |
