Hi all,
I am installing my LED voltage monitor into my display but I don't know which wire to splice it onto?

I have read that some have used accessory citcuit?
and the ignition circuits?
Don't know which wires these are.
Also which would be best to use?

Can you guys help me out plz.

thx,
MMcC

When you have the fly screen off, you will see 2 wires going to the Acc socket. One is positive and 1 is ground. My bike had these already cut with 2 wire nuts on them. I just wired my LED into this circuit.

It's best to have it wired directly to the battery. I have mine on the same hot line as my lights before it gets to the relay to provide battery condition at all times. It will give you false readings underway when spliced in this way. Will be re-doing it soon. Also should solder the connections as the LED set up will not reach back to the battery.

Thats where I tapped in also. Be careful testing the circuit. It doesnt seem to get hot until after the bikes running.

I tapped into the orange and black wires that run the gauge lights. Ignition switched so the monitor goes out with the key, and a "low-vitality" circuit so if something goes wrong...all I use is the gauge backlight.

Connecting the voltage monitor directly to the battery doesn't seem like a good idea because your voltage monitor will always be putting a slight drain on the battery whenever you're not riding the bike.

I also used the wires to the accessory plug on the dash. These wires are switched so that the voltage monitor only sees power the ignition is switched on.

+1 on not hooking it to the battery.
It would drain the battery in a couple of days.

I hooked mine to the back of the "lighter plug" and stuck it to the top of my dash under the flyscreen.

The only warning about this I have is that it's BRIGHT. So aiming it in your face as I did isn't so smart.
I got used to it but it still kinda sucks when there are lots of bugs on my visor at night.

I hooked mine to the accessory line as well. With the Garmin Quest, an the grip heaters. It's a busy little wire : ).

The other problem going direct to the battery is that you then have to put a fuse on it.

I stand corrected. Looks like I'll be doing some re-wiring.

And the problem with wiring it to the aux outlet is, when the battery is low enough for you to really NEED the monitor...the ECM has shut off the outlet.

Going to the battery is a lot of unnecessary work and it will be on 24/7. Use the gray/org "+" going into the inst cluster. Very little draw on that wire so it should reflect the actual bat. voltage within a tenth of a volt or so.

I need to get a meter put on. I like the analog type. Tells you exactly what the volts are, but more than that, I'm color blind. It's too big a pain to try to figure out if it's red or green. The digital would be cool as well. Something clear cut and eye idiot proof.

Ohhh.. you guys are talking about the signal dynamics single LED indicator.

I thought you were talking about the kuryakin one. That's the one that's freaky bright.

At what voltage does the accessory line get shut down?

And it must not be instant... I've captured transients off that line (2008 Uly) as low as 9.6 volts.

I think this only applies to 08-up bikes, right?

I also spray painted a little piece of plastic white, and inserted it into the dask hole.

Does great to dim down the led a little so as to not be a nuisance at night.

AFAIK, ALL of the Ulysses' have the ECM controlled aux outlet.

I'll have to check my '06's shop manual...

I've got mine (a Kuryakin one) wired right to the battery, too, kind of. Actually, it's running into the switched plugs of a FuzeBlock, so although the power comes directly from the battery, it's switched through a relay by the accessory plug. That way, it's not a constant drain on the battery, but only comes on when the accessory plug is powered by the ECM. Same with all my other accessories too - Wallymart lights, Stebel horn, and Gerbings wiring, although that last one's not much of a power drain in this 100+ degree heat we've been having.

My '06 aux jacks come right off a relay that's key powered, no magic black boxes in that circuit. Actually now the relay is by-passed so they'er always hot.

My magic box is kind of dark gray, if I remember right - although that could just be dirt, I guess...
