PS - I see your Bro has an 08+ KLR. (I have an 06) its a pretty reliable thumper, and great little dual sport for mostly off pavement. But It aint my choice for the long haul adventures. Even with aftermarket seat, its a butt killer & marginal power curve. Think 05/06 Tiger.

PS#2 - Beautiful country you got up there. I can hear Neil Young singing 'Helpless' in the background.

Sorry Pete and best of luck with whichever bike you choose. Stay around though. I like reading of your adventures.

Jphish, I sure enjoy your posts and funny twists, and I'll second that 'beautiful country - Neil Young' comment.

Hey folks, I appreciate all your comments, I have the bike for sale but not a single taker, so perhaps I need to research the chain conversion.

I'm hoping that HD will cover the belt under warranty which means I will get another spare.

I will learn to change that belt if I need to do it over and over again in my garage.

Time to tell the rest of the tale

Originally the plan was to ride up over superior then down through MI to meet some friends I've made on a Sportster forum.

So instead this weekend I rode to Mi and back, just under 1000 miles, here are my tracks

Stayed at a hunt cabin near Hale MI and rode from there.

Problem was lack of sleep, Left on Friday morning a 4 am with Four hours sleep under my belt.

On Friday We stayed up until 3:00 am, 23 hours of wakey wakey.

A few shots of the cabin

Notice the bike is back to stock?

We rode east along the Ausable River towards Lake Huron

So had a great time in Michigan with good friends

Paralegal - Did you include the phrase "collectors item" in ad ?? I figure about 5 - 10 years from now these Ulys will be worth a fortune. Don't quote me on that though. BTW - what is that orange HD in the rear of pic ? Buellerxt - thanks. Neil does have a distinctive voice... Ay ? Love his music.

Thats a sportster with a v rod rear fender and quite a few other mods, very cool looking. The guy who owns it does iron butts with it, so it's got a ton of miles.

Hey Pete,

I'll send an email , but why don't you come over sometime this week or next and we'll go through a belt swap on your bike using tools that you carry with you.

If anyone would like pictures of my lowest budget chain conversion I can send some to a cell-phone from my cell-phone and could do a wright-up here to go with it. All who are interested send me your phone # and I'll get to it. I would like to put the pics here but just can't seem to post the pics.

Hey Brian, I don't have your # ??? I don't know where it went so call, text, or PM me it and I'll get the pics to you as well.

this doesnt help now, but you dont need to move the belt tensioner or the axle to replace a belt if your on the side of the road. take off the belt guards, take off the front pulley cover, the chunk of swingarm, the rearset, and loop the belt over the front pulley, over the tensioner and walk the belt on by either spinning the wheel or rolling the bike forward as it slides on. i can do it on my 9 literally in maybe 5 minutes with it leaned on the kickstand.

hey atleast your getting a good story out of it!
