Picked the 2010 Ducati MTS 1200 up on July 16...top case visible at lower left.

Have 1,255 miles on it now. Gotta admit, it is a pretty cool ride. Intend to ride it just like the Uly (which I'm keeping, of course) in terms of terrain, etc. If after 80,000 miles it has given me the same satisfaction as the '06 Uly(s) over that distance, I'll be very happy.

This is the last I'll mention the Ducati MTS 1200 on BadWeb. If anyone is interested in anything about it, PM me and I'll be happy to respond.

I'm with Froggy, Greg. I'd love to hear about the bike and hope you love it and have 80,000+ very reliable miles. I went to see one, and sat on it, but I didn't go back for a test ride. It is an awesome bike and I hope you keep us posted. You're a long time bad webber and we're interested in all bikes. Best of luck to you.

I suspect the Uly will become very lonely.

Consider they occupy very similar roles but with 50% more HP, I can't see the Uly being the steed of choice particularly if reliability is in question.

150hp and 87.5lbft?

It's the Uly with the 1125 motor in it.

Now the real question will be whether or not you can fit a set of deer whistles in the "nostrils".

Hey Doc, We enjoy hearing about your tails of (mis)adventure. Buell Ulysses motorcycles are not being constructed for sale anymore. Who is to be offended by what brand you ride? I don't care if you go to riding a horse.....I enjoy your stories and would like to continue hearing about your epic adventures.

I only regret that Uly #2 was not capable of getting your butt to homecoming this year so that you could have met the family. Who knows, I may even venture your way in the next year or so, and I still won't care which brand of bike you ride.

Hey Doc - I echo others here on the 'Duc' reports. As to any concern on hijacking the web site - technically, as long as you still have a Uly...it's merely offering a bunch of "red headed step children" riding obsolete machines, no longer manufactured & parts that may / maynot be available in 5 years or so...an alternative option. I still love my Uly - but I also have the Tiger. A NEW 2011 ULY is not in any of our forseeable futures... Unless HD envisions a different future. I'm not holding my breath. We all need to be on alert for eventual replacements. Consider this a public service. Nice stablemate! What kind of tires are those ??

Nice ride Doc, I can personally admit I am very jealous. But what really makes me happy is the fact that the missus (hopefully) can now get some peace and quiet while your on the road. The poor thing probably worries enough without having to rescue you from your self inflicted predicaments.

Supposed to be a nice bike if your out riding with other people on fast bikes. A guy i know whos friend got one has already had to have a new fuel pump on it.

Im torn between the ktm 990 and the gs800 for my next bike. Keeping the uly for another year cause its still under warranty, dont want to be left with a bike thats worth nothing in a few years. Its a shame cause i love the bike and never had a problem with it yet.

David, get the KTM if you want a real off road bike. Until that new GX450(or whatever it is) BMW has never really built an off road bike. Their engineers are all road racers. That Ducati sure gives more credibility to this "dual sport" idea that we all like. Now if I can just get used to that "angry chicken" beak. Took me yrs. to get used to the Uly's beak.

Hello guys...

OK, then...I'll post an article/ride report now and then about how the MTS 1200 is doing.

Now the real question will be whether or not you can fit a set of deer whistles in the "nostrils".

Y'know, every NM mountain ride I've taken on the Ducati so far has had at least one deer standing by the side of the road. Very scary!

I only regret that Uly #2 was not capable of getting your butt to homecoming this year so that you could have met the family. Who knows, I may even venture your way in the next year or so, and I still won't care which brand of bike you ride.

Boy, you and me both. I couldn't believe my bad fortune. If you come to New Mexico please let me know in advance.

But what really makes me happy is the fact that the missus (hopefully) can now get some peace and quiet while your on the road. The poor thing probably worries enough without having to rescue you from your self inflicted predicaments.

So far Mrs. Greg has not had to rescue me. And Ducati gives you 2 years of 24-hour road service with the purchase of a 2010 Multistrada 1200. Hopefully won't need it, but that bike IS pretty complicated.

Sweet bike, and the Uly looks great for 80k.

Thanks, but it's actually 31K miles. I purchased '06 Uly S/N 044 on October 1, 2005 and put 55K miles on it when I hit a deer and totaled it. This '06 Uly is S/N 564. I figure around 80K miles combined. Although S/N 044 did look pretty nice...right up until the end.

I love that color of red.

Yes, my '92 Ducati 900SS is the same color. The MTS 1200 is available in red, white, and black, but for me it has to be RED. I also like the hue.

Wow, enjoy. Little too hi tech for me but cool.

This is an experiment. I liked the Uly for its simplicity. The MTS 12 is at the other end of the spectrum. We'll see if it works out. If it strands me with some obscure electrical problem...no quick roadside fix there.

Now go get it dirty!

Yessir! As soon as my back heals (it's improving, albeit slowly). Something about being 62 YO...things don't heal quite as fast.

Don't drop THAT one off your truck...

Oh, man...you would have to remind me.

Supposed to be a nice bike if you're out riding with other people on fast bikes.

Well, I ride mainly solo...not sure if I quite understand your point. After one too many group-induced crashes (not me) I prefer to ride alone or with a very few select riding partners.

A guy I know whose friend got one has already had to have a new fuel pump on it.

Well, that's not good. I know about the "first model year" syndrome...I hope I'm not a victim of that.

Nice Duc, Doc! Best of luck with it. Keep your stories coming, always great to read about your adventures.

Will do. Did a nice ride yesterday which I'll write up soon.

Doc - did you paint the tool box to match the Duc?

Hah! Won the toolbox in a church raffle (honest). Go Kenny Bernstein! Although I prefer Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to Budweiser...

I've just started to modify some of the suspension settings...like all bikes the stock setup is too stiff/heavily damped for my 140 lbs. Went down two clicks on rebound and compression damping F/R and also reduced preload a bit (in TOURING/SINGLE RIDER mode only for now). I can feel the difference! That Ohlins suspension is just amazing. The Uly has very good suspension (up until the MTS 1200 it was the best I'd experienced), but the Ducati suspension is on another level.

For that price it oughta be, right?

More info/ride reports later. Thanks for your kind words. I have yet to establish my credibility on the Ducati forum I'm on, so it's nice to hang out here where I have some friends. Makes me all the more FRUSTRATED that I missed Homecoming...
