This past weekend my wife and I decided to take a nice trip due to finally having a free weekend without baseball or work. 722 miles total 11:18 of driving time. We Left Friday around 6pm and headed up to Escanaba. Rainy morning when we woke up so we were a bit lazy in leaving for our long day of riding. Started heading for Mackinac with the idea to stop anywhere we wanted because we still had plenty of time.

Stopped at a roadside park to get some pics of a lighthouse and MI still has Big Boys. We saw 2 on our trip.

Mug shot

Left there and continued heading east along the lakeshore. Scenic overlook was our next stop and offered great views and wild raspberries and other flowers.

Picked up some delicous smoked jerky and fish just down the road and recharged before making the drive to this guy:

After paying our toll to the troll under the bridge we were on our way

Luckily we didn't have to endure riding on the grate as the bridge was amazingly open in both lanes.

Getting hungry so off to our next stop in time for lunch in Cross Village MI. The Legs Inn. Great ambiance and even better food. The art work that he created from roots and trees found in the area is amazing.

Bar area:

Cool snake from a tree root:

This was in the parking lot when we left:

Then it was on to the reason for the trip M-119. Also called the Tunnel of Trees. 22 miles of curvy tree covered road. Fall the colors would be amazing. Some of these pics are blurry but they show some of the great parts of the road. If you are ever in western MI try to ride this road!

One of my favorites that is a little bit of target fixation by my wife : )

One of the many great looking places in the area and MANY of them were for sale. More for sale than not.

Some others out appreciating the good weather before the rain showed up.

Unfortunately we didn't get many pictures through the rest of the day including Traverse City and a bunch of other cool towns as the rain was sporadic and my wife not wanting to wreck our camera. Made our way into Manistee for the night.

Early am leave time in order to make our "cruise" was greeted by this unwelcome weather.

Not sure who was more startled me or them. "whats that black thing on the road" then they all took off. Hate riding in fog

What was this? First sunshine of the weekend!

It was short lived as we went back into the fog. Made our way down to Ludington to take the SS Badger ferry back to WI.

Slept about 1.5hrs on the ship which was very nice. Us on the ship

This guy flew over as we got closer to Manitowoc. Must have been leaving the EAA.

Couple of sailboats enjoying the breezy cool weather on the lake

Home in WI!

Lighthouse there in Manitowoc

Maritime museums submarine you can go tour

Pier that we backed into to unload. Amazing driving(?) by the captain and wheel man to get it that smoothly into dock.

The nice cool weather we had all weekend in MI was NOT in WI. So we unloaded and headed straight for home and not the scenic route I wanted to take. It was a very fun trip and although it was a lot of miles in 1.5days we never fealt rushed.

Cool! My wife and I rode in that same area back when we had our Gold Wing. I love the Mackinac Bridge but it was extremely windy that day and my wife refused to take pictures as we rode across and back. She wanted to hang on with both hands! Thanks for the nice pictures.

My wife is afraid of heights/bridges so she did remarkably well. She did admit that if we would have had to stay on the grating she would not have been taking pictures

My wife did the S.S. Badger trip on the way to homecoming. I wanted to go up and around but we didn't have the time. Ferries are really cool, they break up the road buzz and are very relaxing.

A small group of us did the UP on the way to Homecoming, very nice indeed.

Wish I had known about the twisty tree lined road!

Thanx for the pictures, I miss the area, I've lived in Manistee, Bellaire, Traverse City, Maple City. Moved from MI in 2006 and till the day I die I will be a Michigander.

We hit every one of those towns on Saturday. Nice area but seems to have been hit real hard by the economy. LOTS of places for sale

Tunnel of Trees is it! I had a buddy that took pictures while he was riding across the Mackinaw Bridge. He was riding behind me and taking pictures while riding on the grate. I always freak on the grate because it is like 5 miles of squirrly riding, the bike just swimming underneath you.

Great pictures, memorable trip.

Nice I want to do that ride one year a big loop from Maryland.

It can be done.

We 2-upped it for HC this year, 3 days' riding time. Day 1, MD to Toledo. Day 2, Toledo to ET. Hung around ET for the festivities for a couple days, and then day 3 was a straight shot down thru Chicago and home again.

It is an AWESOME ride, the U.P. is amazing.

This, to the guy who had 40+ inches of snow this year, and the only complaint I had was that my Deuce had a blown brake line and I couldn't go out and play!

: )

I saw all the snowmobiles in the sheds and driveways. All that says to me is "shorter Buell season"...but I love me some snow!

We were right behind you! Me and 7 other guys took the Lake Express ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee on that Saturday, rode over to LaCrosse and spent the night. Sunday went up to Escanaba, all day Monday running around the UP and ended up in St. Ignace. Tuesday we did the Tunnel of Trees, too. What a nice relaxing ride! We ended up riding almost 1200 miles.

That is why we LIVE up here under the bridge, There is another badwebber that lives in this area also. The roads up here are built on indian trails, Great roads for twisties, and a few for speed runs. (just have to watch for deer and fudgies).you all need to come enjoy this area's roads
