Have you checked for codes present?

Sounds like you need a service manual. It is your key to your Buell. Codes can be read with a jumper wire.....the instructions and codes are in the book.

Not that I am pushing service manuals, but you will need one, especially with a lame dealer. And automotive scan tools won't work that I have found. It would have to have the Buell software in it. Probably not going to happen now days.

The first thing I bought after the first run in with the local dealer was a service manual...as this happened on the way to work I have yet to check my book...sorry...haven't had any electical gremlins yet until now....thanks for the heads up...codes will be stored in there just like our cars, eh

Mine went on that that a couple of times. I figured it was hot and skip running, but it's supposed to blink when it does that.

That last time it did that it stayed on, plugged it into my ecmspy and looked at the code, turns out I burned out the exhuast/break light fuse, replaced it, no problems since.

Here's how you can check for an issue. turn you bike on, engine light should come on for 4 seconds, then turn off. If it comes back on after two seconds, then off again after 4 seconds, then off again, you have a code stored. If it stays on then you have an issue that needs to be addressed.

If it's been pretty hot were you are, it could be an over heat issue of some sort, like you O2 sensor is reading something weird, when you take off, it clears up and the readings are fine, no code stored.

Check out your fuses, O2 conector/s, ecm connections, etc.. make sure everything is secure. Most problems are usually pretty simple fixes.

That's normal- the light comes on momentarily to let you know it's working. You may have just had a momentary issue like overheating. If the engine gets too hot, it goes into "skip spark" mode, firing each cylinder only every other stroke to help them cool down. That would have made the engine run rough until it cooled off.

If it doesn't happen again, don't worry about it.

Wait a minute, the red light is oil, not check engine. The check engine on my uly is amber in color. You may want to check your oil level.

OK I think I may need to run this past all of you, my Uly bucks and the red light comes on for a second then runs rough and goes out, then the bike runs fine. It seems to happen on the decel from about 4000rpm but only occasionally.

The red light can come on solid just before flashing for run skip. You can run it right up to run-skip with out having it flash, it is just a few degrees below the threshold of overheat. Been there, done that.

If it gets to be a frequent problem, check the "Run Skip part 100" thread. Mine started out like yours is a couple of years ago.
