Just Xenon bulbs, or HID kits? I run 8000k bulbs in my HID kit with 55w ballasts. With 35w ballasts and with a standard Xenon bulb, the 8000k would appear MUCH more blue, and I would personally not go any higher than 6000k. | ||

4.3-5K gives the whitest, most usable light IMHO. My son has 8K on his Ninja for the "cool blue factor" but I see better with the 5K. Even the 5K's give the "super blue" Silverstar halogen in my DR350 a yellow candle-like tint. | ||

I went with 6000K, not bad but I still think they are too "blue". 4500K to 5000K is better. I'm filling in with some PIAA driving lights with standard Halogen lamps so over all I'm good. The high beam kicks butt, even with the bluish tint. I am running 35 watt units BTW. | ||

I just installed DDM 5000K HIDs in both my high and low beams. The light is pure white and very bright. I still run the PIAAs while driving day or night, just to put more dots in the oncoming traffic's eyes. However with the HIDs running, the PIAAs are pretty well drowned out. One thing I have become aware of is the truth in other threads I have read about reflector design. The stock halogens in my 09 Uly did seem to concentrate the light in a specific and useful pattern. The light actually wasn't that bad. There just wasn't that much of it. The light from these HIDs just seems to go everywhere. There is no defined concentration at all. The ground just in front of my wheel is lit by the lower part of the halo and 50 ft high tree tops are lit by the upper. I haven't experienced much flashing from oncoming traffic, but I expect the light is pretty intense for them. | ||

If you're willing to add a relay, go 55 watt. If not, go 35 and you're less likely to melt stuff. I prefer the whitest brightest light, which is 4300-5000k, The higher you go above that, the less light output you get, and more blue the light is. | ||

Even with a relay, I would get the 35W ballast. They would be MUCH brighter than any halogen bulb, and the 55W are just too bright to be safely used as a low beam. I have the 55W and try to avoid 2 lane roads at night because they bind the oncoming drivers! I am considering whether to add a 35W (use that for low beam, use 55W for high beam), or to get a pair of 35W and use the 55W ones for fog lights on my truck. | ||

Haha yeah they are. I have ridden many times without being flashed. That doesn't change the fact that if one happens to look directly at the headlight it will blind em. I find that a very unsafe thing, I prefer my oncoming traffic to be able to see! | ||

You shouldn't be looking directly at a light source, regardless of whether its a HID bulb, Halogen bulb, or LED pocket flashlight. I do love that the DDM kit came with a warning that said something like "Do not look directly at the bulb when in use, it uses similar technology as an arc welder" | ||

Agreed, but it's not like you can warn everybody not to. I'm not saying that one should look at it, I am saying that the likelyhood is high that someone would look at it, and I don't like the thought of a blinded driver coming towards me. Obviously many people are happy with the 55W ballasts. I just want to present a counter point to all of the rave reviews of them. I find that there is such a thing as too bright, and if someone had eluded to that previously, I would have likely bought the 35W lights. | ||

5000k looks white. 6000+ attracts too much attention, IMHO. 35w HID low is as good as OEM hi-beam. 35w HID high beam, whoa momma! Yea, don't look at 'em. I saw spots for an hour from admiring. |
