"dark custom" ... HAHA nothing custom about a mass-produced bike.
Add a buncha factory "aftermarket" parts, still not custom.

Lookit Froggy's hoss. Now THAT's custom.
I think that's why I like Buell- it stands out to begin with, and even when there's a bunch of 'em, no two are ever even close.

My 'bolt used to get mistaken for a Duc all the time. Now folks think the Uly is a BMW. I always grin and say, "nope, better" and hammer away.

Harley has always been form over function where as Buell is function over form. I prefer the latter. I'm with Ratbuell on the Road Glide Ultra, it's about time but still they put on a shallow tour pack to make it more streamlined but you can't stuff as much crap in there!!! I don't think they'll ever get it right. Another thing is Harley has been cheapening their engines to the point I won't buy a new one. They have also been slowly fixing the rear end wallow they are famous for. They couldn't fix it right away cause then there would be a class action law suit since they would be admitting fault at that point but a little at a time and nobody notices. That's not a Harley thing though, BMW did it with their surging problems. Never admit fault and slowly fix the problem. I like Buell much better. They had a problem, they fix it and make the cure retroactive for the old bikes. I appreciate that.

I have a Uly and have been thinking about a Road King for a stable mate. Now it's a Victory Cross Road. I think that says it.

I'm with you on the Victory, nice machine. Faster and better handling than the Harley. It's even cheaper! I've seen the inside of one of their engines, very well made. They use a gear to transfer the power to the trans so no primary chain to deal with. They even put a compensator nut on that center gear to make low rpm smoother. My next touring bike will be the Cross Country, not a Harley.

Have you guys ridden a Cross Country? I have only sat on one, and for some reason I didn't care for the way it sat. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just didn't feel right. I have ridden Electra Glides several times and liked them.

Doesn't really matter to me anymore. Having the XT makes me not really want anything else right now. If I had to buy a different bike now, though, I'd probably look at the Kawasaki Concours 14 and if I hit the lotto the Duc MS 1200.

I just had dinner with a friend who was passing through on his way to Sturgis. He had bought a Cross Country but I hadn't heard how he liked it. During dinner I asked him about it and he said he sold it after two weeks. Why? Well, the bike was wonderful. It feels like a sport bike in the corners, has plenty of power and the suspension is way better than Harley. So why did you get rid of it? My wife has had both hips replaced and the foot pegs are too high and uncomfortable for her so I traded it in on a Vision. It ain't pretty but it works great!! He would have been riding it but his trailer hitch didn't make it in time so he took the Road Glide. He had nothing but good to say about the Victory and he rides all kinds of bikes. In fact he came close to getting an XT but wondered about the passenger comfort, I let him know he screwed up!!
