I HAVE BEEN READING THE FORUM FOR A WHILE BUT NEVER POSTED, COULD USE SOME INFO. ON ECM / FUEL REMAPING OPTIONS I HAVE A 2008 XT W/ BREATHER REROUTE, ALTERED STOCK MUFFLER LOVE THE BIKE NOT CRAZY ABOUT HOW WELL IT RUNS-HIGH IDE/ STUMBLE / DECEL POPING/ HUNTING FOR RIGHT FUEL RATIO . SO TALKED TO AL @AMERICAN SPORT BIKE, HAS ANY ONE USED HIS MAPS W/DIRECTLINK? CONSIDERING Erik Buell Racing RACE ECM , ARE THE BUGS GONE YET? THANKS FOR INFO. P/S ANYONE FROM NEW MEXICO OUT THERE? |

For the two weeks I've had it in now my Erik Buell Racing ECM has been great. Mine is optimized for stock muffler and airbox. |

I have both Erik Buell Racing ECM's and Al's maps. Both are great solutions. The Erik Buell Racing ECM will be easier to install though as its just swap out the old, put in the new and ride, while the American Sport Bike one requires a computer and knowing what you are doing. It still isn't hard to do the remap, but more room for error. ALSO STOP SHOUTING! |

Optimized for stock? Do tell, what are the improvements? Mileage change? Other stuff? Mark SE AZ (Message edited by mark_weiss on July 13, 2010) |

I only have Erik Buell Racing ECM's on my 1125's, but what I can tell you is the power so so so much smoother now. It damn near feels similar in power at low RPM as my XB. No surging, low speed drivabilty issues or any other side effects of the EPA friendly stock map, and fuel economy went UP! I experienced similar on my XB after getting the American Sport Bike remap. |

My '06 Uly is absolutely seamless with an Erik Buell Racing map, set up for muffler valve control, optimal spark and fuel, and a K&N filter (in other words, a stock bike with a K&N filter). MPG is basically unchanged which is fine with me...but the bike is SOOO much happier now, regardless of temp, altitude, or length of trip (like the 2-up 2300 mile lap around Lake Michigan going to Homecoming and back). |

You can buy software from Erik Buell Racing to remap it, but they also offer reprogramming services so if you did change your muffler, you can mail it back and $25 later have the latest and greatest programming. |

Mark, I haven't checked the fuel mileage. The bike just plain runs better everywhere. Low speed surging...gone. Dead spot between 4K & 5K rpm....gone. Throttle snatch during low speed cornering...gone. And the bike just feels "eager", if you know what I mean. This fuel map was developed by a Buell owner who ran his stock bike on track days. Erik Buell Racing ported it over to the software running on their ECM for four other riders plus me who were having issues running their basic ECM program on our stock bikes. The old program had "learned lean" within two days of riding. So far this new programming seems to be working well. |

I want to buy Erik's ecm for my stock 08 XT but I don't see it listed. Mark, how did you purchase yours or which one did you buy? Thanks. |

Thanks. I'll do that. Much obliged for the help. My bike runs like crap now after my dealer put a updated fuel map in it. They did tell me that if I bring it back they'll tweak it again but they need for the better part of a day. For the time and trouble I might be better off spending a bit more and doing it right. My warranty expires this week and I can't think of a better time to replace the ecm. |

Does the Erik Buell Racing ecm use the new cooling fan strategy or does it still run on after shut down, like the old one. Living and riding in the hot parts of Arizona. I like the idea that the fan continues to cool the rear head, and reduces heat soak into the bike, after shut down. Mark SE AZ |

My Erik Buell Racing ecm has the new fan logic, which operates the fan above 15mph and if it gets too hot while stopped idling..But does not run after shut down.. |

It will run after shutdown only if the rear cylinder temp calls for it. BUT (big but IMO) it runs on a fairly quiet low speed setting and it does not run for long. |

+1 to what Rwven said. My Erik Buell Racing ecm on my 09 works great, and WILL cool the rear head at shutdown if its hot enough, which it has been in TX lately. It will also turn the fan on at stoplights if need be. |

I sent an email to Erik Buell Racing early this week about the ecm for a stock Uly. Does it typically take them a long time to reply? They may be busy wit race prep and not have anyone monitoring email since they have a small staff but I just wondered if it is "normal" to have a delayed response. |

No. I sent it to sales@ I'll resend it to tech@ and see if I get a quicker response. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Ulykan, You might check your spam box on your E-mail providers web site. Some times my gmail provider decides some of my incoming mail is spam when it isn't. Husky |

I sent email to tech and within an hour or so I got a reply telling me to put in the remarks section that I have a stock pipe. When I went back to the order page there was a part that specified 2008/2009XB12 with no other information so I chose that part # and stated that I'm needing it for a stock pipe. I'm really looking forward to getting it because the stock ecm is nothing but trouble. For the amount of time and frustration I've had to experience trying to get the stock ecm tuned I felt it was worth the $250 to have one that simply works. Once I have it installed I'll post the result. Thanks guys. |

Just an FYI, I sent Erik Buell Racing tech an email about fuel maps, they sent me this. We sell preprogrammed race ECM's, but do not sell maps. Thank you, Tech Support Erik Buell Racing }} |

Yesterday I finally got a reply from sales@ and was told that they won't have any ecm's for stock pipes for a few weeks yet as they're still working on best torque and performance maps. Also I was advised to check back in a few weeks. I was quite surprised because tech support had told me to order one and state in ordering instructions that it was for the stock pipe. They even confirmed my order. Hopefully tomorrow they will clear this up. |

Sounds like they're finalizing the maps that Ron/rwven got for his bike. How's it feel to be a beta-tester, Ron? LOL |

Ulykan, The only thing I've heard about an updated program is what you posted here. My ECM has whatever map Erik Buell Racing was using a month ago. |

Rwven, From the wording of your last post I thought you had gotten your Erik Buell Racing ecm updated with a different map. Obviously that's not the case. No problem. So far still nothing from Erik Buell Racing on my ecm so it's just hurry up and wait I suppose. As I had mentioned earlier, recently I had what was supposed to be the latest and greatest map that the MOCO had to offer put in my ecm and instead of improving runability it degraded it so badly that the bike almost won't run at low speeds. Thus the reason for buying a new ecm from Erik Buell Racing. I can't wait to get it! |

Ulykan, The ECM program I got a month ago was an update from the original ECM in my Erik Buell Racing unit. From the sound of the e-mail you received from Erik Buell Racing they are working on an improvement of that program also.... |

Here is the actual message that I received: We are working on best power and torque calibrations for a stock XB muffler. Please check with me in a few weeks for availability. |
