Hello friends, I fitted the 8 piston caliper, all fitted in fine, just I have CRG levers, I was told i would need the part for the x1 levers to fit in correct but when I did change it I saw the master cylinder where the lever touches was pressing in a bit, so I suppose this shoulden't happen, will it cause my brake to lock up while riding? whit the original set up for the XB it looks fine not touching. Any ideas about this? Thanks | ||

The 8 piston caliper uses a different master cylinder than the 6, and a different brake lever. I don't know if the X1 is the correct lever or not, but if you are using the OEM Buell master cylinder for 8 pistons, you should be using the 1125R lever. Using the wrong lever can be dangerous and can cause the brake to lock like you mentioned. | ||

I'm Using the CRG, just it was strange that the part number was for the X1 and the 1125R but that part didn't seem to sit correct while the XB model for XB sits perfect, haven't had a chance to test it as my bike is getting a new throttle body, am my shaft decided to die. | ||

I'm looking into this for a customer's bike. So far, the 6p caliper seems fine for my needs. The last P&A book from Buell has a chart of parts for 08-10 XBs to convert to the 8-piston. It lists the caliper and a brake line, no mention of a different master cylinder. Can it be done to an 06? and what will be needed?? Does the 8p caliper bolt to the fork leg mounts OK? TIA Zack | ||

Zac - I think (if you're looking at the same book I'm thinking of - the '10 Buell P&A catalog) it shows H0507.1AMD as the required m/c, under the H1110.1AMZT caliper. Page 32, right above the assortment of brake lines. 6 pistons have been just fine for me on the Uly, too. I love the 8...on the CR, where I...uh...tend to need more braking power sometimes lol. But until 8 pot pads drop below $100 a set, I'll stick with the ol' 6 pot clamp. | ||

And Zac - I'm pretty sure the 08 parts can be used on an 06, with no problem. Easy check, cross reference the stock calipers and lines from an 06 Uly to an 08 Uly. I'm pretty sure they're the same numbers... | ||

Thanks Joe. I already have a good long time planned with the parts books for a project for a friend  Troy may decide to not bother with the 8-pot but still looking in case somebody does want to. Time to get out to the garage and get Loretta back together. Zack | ||

Let's see, the master cylinder has to be changed as there is a difference in the amount of liquid displaced, about the pads go to Al American Sport Bike they go for a lot less than 100$ for HH EBC pads. |
