I bought my XP in October of last year and since new the side cases have leaked. Everything I put in there gets wet, even if I double bag it moisture seems to seep in. Are leaky bags covered under warranty? Anyone else have theirs leak? | ||

Yes, and no. My side bags never leaked until after my warranty was up. The rubber gaskets will occasionally pull out of place. I push them back in. I pack stuff in kitchen garbage bags making sure the top is not facing up and is not open. One thing I have seen happen to my stuff, is opening the left bag on the bike in the rain, will drain the water that might accumulate around the handle into the bag as you open it. Now I lean the bike to the left or take the bag off first if it has been sitting still. | ||

I have some items I leave in the bags in case I may need them in the road- first aid kit, BRAN, etc... and I have to take everything out on the weekend to air out. I have everything in plastic bags but moisture seems to still set in. I guess it doesn't help that it rains everyday here in Florida... | ||

Blasterd, since you have an XP, don't you have the Outdoorsman bags instead of the Journeys? I thought the Outdoorsman bags were more watertight and did not leak. If yours are leaking I would contact the dealer. Who knows whether they will stand by them or not, but I would certainly try. | ||

Thats right, the outdoorsman bags are the only ones that are listed as been waterproof | ||

My left journey leaks when it's parked outside in the rain but not when driving through heavy rain and deep puddles. I think the water pools up on top and runs down to the open rivet. I tried to have mine fixed under warranty so I drove to the dealer from work in the pounding rain, took them inside and opened them on his counter. DRY. made me look really smart  | ||

I have found water in my left Journey bag as well. I too think it is from the bike sitting in the rain more than riding in the rain. I would prefer the Outdoorsman bags, but since I would have to buy new racks and new bags I am sticking with my Journeys. At least for now. The Journeys are bigger, though and except for a little water in my left bag once or twice have been completely serviceable. | ||

Nate - like Vern (etennuly) says, it's not that the left bag leaks. The latch recess pools water when sitting on the "downside" of the kickstand angle, and it dumps into the bag when you open it. Tape over the recess next time, or cover it with a plastic bag taped down to the bag. Hose it off (don't put water pressure on the tape/bag/whatever, make it seem like rain) real good, get it good and wet. Then, remove the tape/bag/whatever. Bet you're dry inside. And if I get a gasket spot that likes to pull out...I put a dab of RTV silicone on the backside to hold it in place and put it back. They don't pop loose after that  | ||

I'm gonna call the dealer next week and see what can be done, these things have leaked since I bought the bike. When I first bought the bike I had the manual in there and it got all moldy....yuk! | ||

I have the Journey bags and both have leaked since I rode the bike off of the lot. Needless to say I'm disappointed as the added protection of hard luggage is one of the reasons I went with a Uly. I have decided to just dry bag my things before putting them in my hard cases. A pain for sure, but I imagine if I swapped the hard bags out with a new set I'd still have the same problem. | ||

Mine leak as well so I just use dry bags, not too big a deal and easy to transfer stuff from case to house...etc. keeps manual and extra parts dry and not flying around loose in the case. | ||

Wow, I didn't think the Outdoorsman bags leaked. Might as well keep the bigger Journeys and save tons of money in the process. | ||

My wife has Hepco & Becker Junior bags on her Lightning Long (same as the Outdoorsman bags). She has the 30 Liter bags for commuting and weekend trips, and the 40 Liter for long rides. None of the four bags leak a bit. The Journey bags on my '08 XT do leak a little, but the Journey bags that were on my '06 X never leaked a drop. I put everything that I don't want to get wet into ziplock bags. Not only do they stay dry, bit they stay organized as well. |
