After I did a top end kit by bike will not run right. I replaced the coil, spark plugs, and spark plug wires also.

The bike needs a little throttle to turn on. It then idles rough. After it warms up if I bump the throttle the bike will die.

I have checked the timing and done a TPS reset.

I checked by spraying carb cleaner all around the throttle body but nothing happened.

If it's running that poorly, how did you do a TPS reset? TPS should be reset after engine is at operating temperature. Maybe you need to re-do your TPS reset?

Otherwise, I'd check all the electrical/sensor connections you had to disconnect to work on the top end of the engine. Maybe something didn't get connected back properly or a wire or connector was damaged.

Do you have the injector wires on the right injector?

What exactly is a top end kit?

How was the bike running before the kit?

For grins, make sure your battery is fully charged and do a compression test.

New12r's question is interesting. Enough fuel still in the cylinder to start and sort of idle even with the fuel injection way off.

It will idle it will just jump up to 2000rpm then fall back down so I can get the bike to warm up to set the TPS. Its just if I hit the throttle the bike will die.

I made sure the spark plugs were gaped right.

I made sure that the injectors wires were put back correctly. If I remember right it was the gray wire for the rear injector.

It is all the gasket for the top half of the engine. So from the base gasket for the jug to the top rocker cover. The bike was running good before the kit. I blow out a spark plug and it stripped all the threads out of the front head so while that was in the shop I replaced all the gaskets. The rear gasket were leaking at the base of the jug and at the head. The battery is fully charged.

When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned the intake? New plugs and wires in mine made it run like crap until I gave the throttle body and intake boot a good spray down, then the Uly ran better than ever.

Sorry Sweetfish,

I meant to say... with a fully charged battery (to spin the engine fast), do a compression test.

In a different life I had a Triumph Trident. I managed to put the valve covers on backward/upside down/front on rear or something. The covers held the valves part way open. The compression test helped to direct me to my error.

On the injector wires my '07 SM shows W/Y + GY to the front and GN/GY + GY to the rear.

Dying on an open throttle sounds like a lean condition. This is why I suggested an intake leak. An intake leak can also give a crappy idle.

I assume that there are no trouble codes.

If you have the SM, p 1-51 has some troubleshooting ideas for your condition. If you don't have the manual, I can copy them and send it to you. Let me know.

Thanks od_cleaver I will check those things. I do have the SM. I will make sure I look over it again and see if I can figure something out. I'm pretty sure I put the head back together correctley but I don't know.

Od_Ckeaver I did end up putting the valve covers on the wrong head. I now need to replace the crankcase breather on the rear jug. Does anyone know the part # for it?

Check for intake leaks - start bike, spray carb cleaner at the intake to head seals. If the idle changes...it's leaking.

Thanks Daddio it was the PCV valve.and grommet. Do you know if they are interchangeable with other types of bikes honda, suzki, etc.? Since I highly doubt HD will have one.
