Well here is the progress so far. One slotted shaft ready to go next to the lame piece of crap next to it:

Here is the broken one zoomed in. You can see the lack of "meat" around the threads:

Here is the split teflon bushings the shaft rides in;

Here is the assembled shaft and butterfly:

I'm hoping to meet up with my cousin tomorrow and get his opinion. As soon as I have an answer I'll let everyone know and I'll include a price.

Looks like it could make a great winter upgrade on the '06...

It is a work of art!
makes me happy we have each other to rely on for innovation to keep these bikes running.

It is a trade off. More meat on that side of the butterfly is less airflow at WOT.

How much air flows when one of those crappy originals snaps??

That's very true. On our racing carbs I milled the sides flatter except by the screws. On the Uly I thought ruggedness was more important. If your that worried about air flow at WOT you need an 1125!

My exact thought! But if you want power you should be riding a water cooled, dual throttle body pod laden Lobster bike : )

I would doubt one could tell the difference unless it was on the dyno.

I feel much better now knowing a fix is on the way. Thank you Tootal!

Now what about those teflon bushings? Is this an easily obtainable part?

A long distance thank you from Kuwait! I have often said that one of the greatest things about being a Buell owner and Badweber...is the extensive community of support that comes with them. It's not a club or anything like that...it is a family! Thanks again Greg...email sent.

The bushings were in good shape so no need to replace them. If one is bad you could do a bushing search, I'm sure someone out there is selling them in industry.

Steve, got the e-mail. Don't worry about anything, just keep your head down!!

That's a REALLY nice looking piece and appears to be an elegant solution.

No one will be able to tell any difference in performance in the bikes they'll go in and the manner they'll be ridden.

Steve . . all the best from the homeland. We're all behind you . . hurry home.

Looks awesome tootal! Almost seems a shame to use the old bushings on that new shaft IMHO. What seems smooth on the bench can act a little different when vacuum hits the back of the butterfly (air pressure on the front..wichever). My 2 cents

As far as that thing flowing less air.....that will just mean more torque down low!

I'm sure I would notice. The lobster is not going to be my 1st choice once I free up enough funds for the next "Buell" in about 4 years.

How about making it all wrinkly or nubbed to increase turbulence on the intake charge?

Nice work, my good man.

Tootal-Looks very very nice. Please put me on the list. I remember the first hydralic lifter I had in an old car. I thought it was such a nice piece of work I kept it on my desk. Now this looks the same, too bad it will be hidden.
