Tim, other than the Erik Buell Racing ECM, my bike is stock.

First, I had to buy the Erik Buell Racing ECM . When I began to have issues with it (within two days) I shot an e-mail off to the tech department at Erik Buell Racing. At that time they did not have a fix, though they were aware that some folks with stock bikes had some issues, but they were working on a fix. I corresponded with them for a month or so as the running of my bike deteriorated. In the end the tech department requested that I return my ECM (they also had four from other owners with the same problems) so that they could "read" it and see what it had done. From there, after a few weeks, they developed a fix. So far so good!

My new ecm arrived today and I can't stop grinning!! This is a whole new bike now that I changed the ecm. If anyone is having the kinds of problems that I was: popping on decel, fast idle, stumbling when cold, etc. and you have an extra $260, then buy one of Erik's ecm's. My Uly is fun again.

Got mine yesterday along with the thicker front brake rotor. I can't install it till I get my computer back. I left it at a friends house. I know I will have to set my tps once installed so I'll just have to wait. I'm assuming the ECM SPY will work on the new unit since it's the same format as my old one. Are my assumptions correct?

Tootal,

Why would you need your computer back to install the new ecm? If you bought the Erik Buell Racing ecm it is already programmed and ready to go. Just plug it in and fire it up. At first mine idled about 500 rpm's fast but after a couple of minutes it dropped back to its normal rhythm. I couldn't be happier. Erik Buell Racing did a fantastic job of mapping the ecm for the stock pipe. This is the way it should have run from the start.

I figured you would have to do a tps reset since mine is an 06. It takes the computer to do this. Your 08 is plug and play!

You might not need to do a TPS reset. If the value stored on the ECM is close to what it should be for your specific bike, then you won't have to worry about it : )

That's a big IF. You know if it's off just a little it will run like crap. It's not a big deal to wait, I'm a patient man! Mine isn't all that bad with the stock ecm as ecmspy has really helped over the years. I've made many changes, even getting rid of the 0 column on the map. I think I told you this story at homecoming. I just need to datalog to fine tune it but I have so many projects right now it was just easier to pay for the new ecm and be done with it. My question for you Froggy is will my ecmspy be able to pull codes and reset them and to tps resets etc.?

When someone has had time to run a few tanks of fuel through their '08 with the Erik Buell Racing ecm, I'd be very interested in fuel consumption changes (if any). My '08 runs OK, but could be better. Particularly, cruising in the 3k to 4k range, I'd like it to be smoother.

I've not had any idle problems, no popping or backfiring either. It would be nice if the bike was a bit stronger off the bottom (more '06 like) and smoother in the aforementioned rpm range. Right now, 2800 or so is the bike's sweet spot.

Mark, some of what you feel might be the cam action on the butterfly actuator. The 06 could be a little jerky at low rpm so in 08 they made it where you were opening your throttle slower at the same amount of twist of your hand. Therefore if you were use to an 06 and jumped on an 08 it would feel soft to you. Just a thought, might not be what you mean though?

Mark,
I've only had a chance to ride a few miles so far with the Erik Buell Racing ecm but the bike is so much smoother vibration wise at all but idle. The rough spot between 50mph and 60mph seems to be gone. Start-up is instantaneous and immediate idle without dying whereas before it would die immediately 3 or 4 times before it would idle and then it would idle rough and sometimes even pop and spit at idle after start. It does however idle @ 1600 rpm for a few minutes but never dies or idle rough like it used to. Later today I'm hoping to go for a longer ride and put some highway miles on it. So far it has only had urban riding miles since Thursday but that has been flawless. Since the bike was new it always popped on decel; ALWAYS. No more. Obviously if your bike is running ok then you don't need to buy a new ecm. There may be other "fixes" rather than Erik Buell Racing for problems like I had but I'm happy with my purchase and that's what counts. My Uly now runs better than new. YMMV
