After years of our wives enduring photo after photo of bikes and each other from our yearly week-long rides, my buddy and I have decided that this year we want to entertain them with on-board video of our ride. So I found this cheap mounting solution online: http://www.knick-knack.com/howto/motorcycle/cheap-handlebar-camera-mount I changed a few things, such as using screw-on pieces instead of having to glue them together, but otherwise, same basic idea. I've got it mounted on the cross-bar on my handlebars, like so:  On top of that I've got my little Panasonic FX-35. My problem is that the vibrations from the Uly are too much for my mount. The video vibrates more than I want it to... at certain rpm it's almost unwatchable. Here's my latest test so you can see what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahMHbyg8szY My buddy who built a similar mount for his Suzuki bandit doesn't have the same problem because somehow, his Suzuki vibrates less! Under the plastic piping, I've got some fairly thick rubber pipe wrap to help with the vibrations, and it helps a bit compared to an old handgrip that I had there for my first tests, but still not great. I'd like to have it mounted to the handlebar so that I can turn it on/off easily, but I'm wondering if the vibrations will just be too much up there. Does anyone else have a handlebar mounted camera setup? Any ideas on how to reduce the vibrations? | ||

Get a GoPro HD... gopro.com with helmet mount kit. at 720P the wide angle perspective is 170 degrees, so the sense of movement and speed goes WAY up, and perceived shaking/vibration goes WAY down. Keep your Lumix as your go to pocket camera, it's great for that. | ||

Mount up to the turn signals, they don't vibrate as much and video out of my cam is stable at everything except right off idle. The Go Pro is a good camera, but the mounting systems and cases for it are terrible. | ||

I thought about the GoPro camera, but don't want to spend that kind of money on a camera I would just use on the bike. | ||

I use the RAM mounts the 3.5 inch arm or the 5 inch arm with a Sony HD MP5 Blogger camera and it works great | ||

How do you mount a camera to the turn signals?  Shut the bike off first! You would never get a wrench on it idling! | ||

Froggy, do you mount a little point and shoot camera to your turn signal? Or a pencil type cam that you attach to a camcorder in your tankbag? | ||

It came with the mounting hardware, I ended up using zip ties. 
I guess you don't have a $800 GPS either!  | ||

I guess you don't have a $800 GPS either! You're right - I have a $170 refurbished GPS! I'd love to be able to spend all my money on bike stuff, but then my kid wouldn't get new shoes, my dog wouldn't get the good food, and my wife would leave me. | ||

Babired, Do you have any video posted somewhere taken with your RAM mounted camera? I was thinking of a RAM mount, since I like the one I have for my GPS, but was wondering if it would dampen the vibrations more than what I have now... | ||

nope I still a little behind on the camera computer to YOU tube technology. I can tell you it is pretty stable though I have some electrical tape over the microphone and I still get wind noise. I tried posting once on FaceBook and it was totally frustrating, I was close but not successful. I love the RAM mounts I have it next to the left rear view mirror and Uly windshield. ONE DAY I'll set up an account there and try posting videos. I use mine for MC safety consulting if a rider wants it, we go to a TV or computer and hook the camera up and have class. when I get home I'll set it up and take a photo of my set up if you want (Message edited by babired on July 13, 2010) | ||

Don't mount on the turn signals, bars or anywhere else on the Uly... Tried a bunch of places but at anything less than 3,500 rpm most digital video cameras suffer from rolling shutter disease due to the vibes. Go hero is on the windscreen taking snaps every five seconds and the 'scientific' one is now on the helmet. I am however going to try a fork tube (not slider) location next to see what happens. Helmet video is ok IF your relatively steady with the head. If not, it wavers all over the place as you check the dash, gps, mirrors and scenery. Google 'rolling shutter' to see what I mean. The lines in the road, powerlines, fences... most everything 'straight' turns out wiggly. | ||

Babired, If you post a picture of your setup, that would be great. Tiltcylinder, I'm not so concerned about rolling shutter I think... a few wiggly straight things is fine with me... as long as my camera isn't shaking all over the place making me want to vomit when I watch it, I'll be happy. | ||

Now goes mine with the Go Pro camera, haven't tested it yet due to my bike being broken down but it seems a good fitting point and when taking it of it only leaves half of the mount.   What do you think of this? | ||

I use the RAM mounts. Very good quality construction and lots of options. |
