This evening I was getting my 12X ready for a trip up to California's "lost coast" tomorrow.
While I had the muffler cowling off to change the oil filter I thought I'd check the front muffler strap. There's a couple of threads going here about them breaking. Well I'm happy to report my muffler strap looks like new!

Something didn't seem quite right though.... another thing to check when you are changing out your oil filters.
Thanks Badweb... probably saved me a big headache.

No wonder it looks so good, it hasn't been under any stress for a while now.

Are you missing the muffler mount fastner bolt?

The nut looks like its there but I don't see the bolt sticking through.

I replaced mine (after it fell out) with a stainless allenhead bolt and a nylock nut

My strap broke fairly soon after I replaced the bolt, probably because of the extra load it carried for the time the bolt was missing

When you replace that bolt and nut make sure you check the exhaust nuts at the heads too. Don't over tighten them or you may snap a stud though.

Also remember to loosen and torque in sequence ALL the straps and muffler mounting stuff.

Good thing you caught that. Last summer, I didn't, and it eventually caused the headers to rattle until the head bolts sheared off, the O2 sensor detached, the loose header beat the crap out of the exhaust port, necessitating replacing the head. It was a long ugly and expensive experience, mitigated only by the fact that the factory picked up the cost. The bike was out of service for almost two months between investigating, negotiating, and waiting for parts.
