Only when you install them the "Wong Way"!

Dealer called today and said mine really will ship Monday from Mother, so maybe a week! Other backorders should be shipping soon also, let's hope! My old wheel. in great shape, will be available then. Should I sell it with the fairly new (800 mi) Sync on it and get a new tire or have the tire moved over?

In my opinion, there will be no failures of the 2010 wheel set up. It is the correct fix for the problem. (again- in my opinion)
This fix actually covers several design problems in the rear hub. It's way mo betta.

just an old rider's $.02

>>>It is the correct fix for the problem.

Kinda yes, kinda no.

There was a team hard at work . . testing, analyzing and developing engineering data when Buell got the plug pulled.

Your wheel may hold water but most the theories I've read don't. There are many guesses . . . all guesses based on varying experiences, background and predisposition . . but no science.

There was real engineering data being collected and the 2010 was kind of a "while we're studying this, just build something to about 400% of what it takes for now" response. The 2010 wheel is insanely overdone.

The folks at Buell turned all the data over to Harley-Davidson. No clue what happened from there.

Skip my question. I did a search on just the PN this time and got my answer (yes - 2x).

Thanks guys..

-----------------

Part Number Confusion:

Court,

From your pictures, the PN G1309.1AKYBQ Kit, Rear Wheel, Magnesium Ton contains:

1. rear wheel
2. 3 bearings
3. spacer
4. 2 seals
5. 1 O ring (or something similar)

Is the new axle included? PN if not.

The only thing else that I need to fit this to my 07 Uly are the pulley and rotor screws - correct?

Thanks a bunch,

(Message edited by od_cleaver on July 09, 2010)

Yes, see item 5 & 6 on the parts list shown in the photograph.

Piece #5 is a spacer that the left side external seal rides on. The right side seal rides directly on the axle.

The new axle is not included, because the kit is no longer available. HD considered the kit a Buell accessory and dropped it from their catalog. You must order each part separately now.

Both Item #5 and Item #6 are rear axles. I'm not sure which fits which.

If I'd known HD was going to buger up the supply of spares and parts . . . I'd have invested in several of the kits.

I could hazard a guess....

Any chances there's a napkin somewhere with some notes scratched on it? ; )

That said (and I'm gonna jinx myself), I have yet to have a lick of trouble out of my '06 rear wheel with black seal bearings. 15k and counting...mostly overloaded.

I don't think the problem with the bearings is water. I think it's load. They built bearings for a 425 lb sport-tourer...not for something with an over-900-lb-GVWR. Pair that with V-twin torque...

Think about it. Most folks don't (can't) load XB's and 1125s with nearly as much crap (read: weight) as we do with the Ulysses.

And where are the most bearing failures?

What do I know, though...I just sell RV's.

Whats funny is, Toona (the guy that saved my ass after a bearing failure), he mentioned the same thing, something like 25k on original FAG bearings on his silver XB wheels (transfered to his 1125R). The night I got home from homecoming he messaged me from the side of the road, his bearings failed.

The 2010 bearing and axle kit G1321.02A8 is available, as I just received mine this week. The kit that includes the rear wheel and this bearing and axle kit together has been discontinued. To get the works, you only have to order 2 part numbers, the wheel and this kit to fit an XB.

Thesmaz,

American Sport Bike only shows the "X" kit in their catalog, I needed a black wheel for my XT. I ordered mine online from Chicago Harley Davidson.

I've been waiting for a "X" 2010 rear wheel kit for a couple of months. I hope he gets his stock soon and I can get back on the road. I've missed most of the summer, again, waiting on parts.

Steve, despite all the views to the contrary, I have been running mine with the Loctited drive side bearing for months. I wouldn't be loading up to the overloaded luggage weights but for daily running it is holding up far better than I thought.
It is certainly worth a try if you have the time and facilities to muck around.
The other option that a friend took was to fit a normal XB wheel for a while. Try the european eBay and as long as you don't need the off-road beefier rims then a standard rear wheel could get you on the road (even if it is red, blue purple).
The other option that you could try if you can locate a good machine shop is this one that has been used for the earlier Tuber wheels:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/372366.html?1217858916

This is what I am going to try and get done to mine when I do get the 2010 wheel fitted. I have an X and XT so a spare wheel may be of use some day.
Missing the good riding weather is no good for the soul.

OK, why would anyone set a new wheel on rocks & concrete? Not the best way to display it.

Joanne at American Sport Bike let me know that my wheel had arrived Friday, Al was pressing in the bearings and it would e mailed on Saturday morning! Time to get crackin' on getting it back together and ready to ride! I've got a new set of Pirelli Angels waiting to go on the wheel when it gets here!
