I will load pictures once I figure out how to format. You would think I'd know with as many times it has been asked. The following info maybe old news for some and new for others. It may even be posted somewhere.

So I woke up this morning feeling patriotic. Having planned today's journey in advance, I mounted my Barricade Orange Buell Ulysses and headed east out of Memphis towards Shiloh National Battlefield Park. I happily paid my $3. My first order of business was to get my National Parks Passport stamped. This is something my girlfriend gave me a couple months back and thought it would be cool for the rides. So I stamped the book and started wondering through the museum. I knew little about this battle other then it was a major one. On top of that, I knew little about the people that were involved in it. Especially two in particular. Those names will reveal themselves shortly.

The battle of Shiloh was a significant battle in the Civil War. ULYSSES S Grant was heading to Corinth Ms to try and capture the Railroad. Corinth was a major railway intersection for the south. The Confederate army got wind and decided to meet the Union Army at Shiloh. Roughly 38,000 Union and 44,000 Confederate soldiers collided at Shiloh for two days. Approximately 23,000 died.
For a day or so, Grants stronghold was the original "Hornets Nest" . However, eventually General Johnston took the nest and forced Grant back towards the Tennessee River. Along came approximately 18,000 Union reinforcements lead by General Don Carlos BUELL and the Union won the battle of Shiloh.

I don't know if Erik Buell is related to General Buell or if he named the Ulysses after Grant. But it sure makes for a good story/trivia question.

As for Shiloh itself...Very Cool. It's located on the banks of the Tennessee River. I took a picture of Buell and Grant in the museum. Once again, I will post pix as I figure it out.

Happy Fourth of July.

Click upload attachment, browse, find your picture files choose the picture, right click the pic, click on edit, click image, then attributes then resize them to say 600 x 460, click file then save, OK, then close the edit picture and hit open, and lastly choose upload.

Sounds like a lot, but it is easy after a couple hundred times!

I'm a bit of a Civil War buff.
Interesting the way that all comes together.
