I am needing some assistance in finding out the diameter and thread count for the bolt that attaches the shock to the upper frame mount. Today after replacing my fan the helicoil came out as I was creeping up on the SM specified torque
Just what I needed, something else to brighten my day while working on the Uly....

TIA!

Are you sure it's a helicoil, or is it all the threads from the hole that pulled when they stripped out? A helicoil won't come out when tightening unless some of the hole material comes with it. Is it possible that the mounting hole may now need a helicoil instead?

A1065.2CZB Screw M10 x 65mm

No timesert/helicoil seen.

Equivalent if you need to put a new helicoil maybe it's easier in USA???: 3/8 x 2,5"

Thanks for the info. I guess I just pulled the threads out which is strange given that I wasn't even close to the SM specified tq value. Kind of disappointing really. I'll see if I can fix it, if not it will be helicoil time.....

What was the torque spec. in the book? Is the bolt going into aluminum? I'm too lazy to go take mine apart!

What was the torque spec. in the book?
2006 Ulysses service manual page 2-68: 48-52 ft-lbs

Is the bolt going into aluminum?
Yes it seems so

A 10mm bolt into aluminum at 48-52 ft/lbs is too much IMO. A 3/8" bolt into steel is usually torqued at 38 ft/lbs max. This looks like the torque on the oil drain screws. Way too much!

I agree but was going by the book when trying to put it back together. This kind of thing always seems to happen to me when I'm working on the Uly, try to make it better and it only gets worse..... I've missed a month of prime riding time here in northern Italy (door step of the Alps) and now I've got to figure a good way to get this fixed as well as finish gathering the rest of the tools that I thought I had to replace the stator. Trying to find a big socket SAE socket set here is a bit tough! If I was in the States, it wouldn't be an issue....

Thesmaz, The crank is 1-1/8" socket and the clutch is 1-3/16". A 30mm will work on the clutch as that is what I used. 1-1/8" = 28.58mm so maybe a 29mm 6 point socket would work for you.

Greg,
Didn't receive anything as of yet. If you have to email me at smaz dot world at gmail dot com.

I've put out a call to several friends that have a good selection of tools or easy access to them and I expect that one of them will be able to help me out, just waiting to hear back from them.
