I really like my Ep!c built aluminum panniers. The price is right - $275 for the pair plus $50 shipping. They are high quality, no-nonsense boxes. I got mine naked, but he can get them powder coated really cheap. The removable lid with bungee attachments is a pretty cool idea. When the boxes are unattached, the bungee makes a handy handle for moving them around. When they're on the bike, the lids will come straight off as there's no hinge. That works perfect for attaching large objects to the lid with the bungees. I was able to transport a bed roll on one and my tent on the other. The boxes have two rotating latches each lid which are very nice. I also like the fact that the weather stripping is mounted onto the lid which protects it.

I mounted these directly to the racks with four wing-nuts. I had visions of me creating a "puck system" but realized that undoing eight wing-nuts was pretty easy to do. The racks I bought had four mounting holes that worked perfectly, I just had to drill four holes in the panniers.

I used the Twisted Throttle racks (made by Fehling) which went on very easily. (although the instructions sucked, there's a couple helpful how-tos in this forum).

You need some Buell stickers on those things.

Metaldude,

Nice boxes! If you have time, could you get close-up pics of your fork wind deflectors. Looks like a great setup.

Thanks,

Brent

It is sweet having side bags like that. I have some carribou bags and guess what else? They act as a roll cage for the back of the bike to!

Look like great quality and excellent price. And they're top loading!

If/when I decide to add luggage I will probably go with a set of those bad boys.

Will they work with the OEM sidebag frame?

Iliad, they should work with any frames, because you'll have to drill the boxes in order to mount them. In my case, the Fehling racks already had four holes in them where I could mount the boxes flush to the rack with bolts and wingnuts. If the OEM racks have something similar, than you're golden. Otherwise, you can use a mount kit like these:

Brent, here's a link to my post with more information about the custom lowers.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/518149.html?1259627283

Since this original post, I have raised them up about two inches so they pert near touch the bars. Stopping that wind in that area is key to cutting down helmet turbulence at high speeds.

One other mod I would do to the design if I was doing it over would be to not worry about getting the special bevel tool. Hitting the edge with a power sander is good enough.

Plus the hardware for the lowers make a great replacement for a missing shifter bolt in a pinch! : )

I've got a set of those on my Uly too, and a touratech rack. I love them, big, bulletproof and they can hold a lot of stickers. I made my own mounting pucks, will take a few shots at some point and post them.

Are these racks American made?
If so, that price is insane.
The Touratech panniers are over a grand at the BMW dealer!!!

Fehling (makes Twisted Throttle's racks) and Touratech are both German. I got the touratech racks for mine for a really good price, they list for about $450 but are rock solid.

The Epic panniers are handmade by a guy in the PNW. They are plain, no frills boxes, so not the same attention to detail or quality as the Touratech boxes, but you can't beat them for the price.
