Added auxiliary light that drew to much power and killed the battery on a ride home. Check engine light came on, lights dimmed and bike shut off. disconnected lights, charged the battery. It is hold a charge no problem. When bike is off 13V when running 13.98v so that seem fine. However, the check engine light has remained on. Is there a way to reset the check engine light? Uly 08 XT

You can use ECMspy to check and clear the codes.

Is there a version of ECMspy for the 08's. Checked with a friend of mine that has an ECMspy & he said it won't work on the 08's and up?

If the engine light is still on, there must be a problem still.
Perhaps unrelated to the charging system?

What trouble code does the light indicate?

You should be able to read the codes with ECMspy. I know I am able to read the codes on my 2008 firebolt and 1125r.

If you were running the bike and it died while you were running it you have either some monster lights (which I suppose is possible) or you have a charging system issue, or wiring issue with your lights.

My guess is something isnt hooked up right with your lights and you fried something

I don't know who your friend is, but you can use ECMspy to check and clear your codes.

Hey Chris - I have a old version of ECMspy (2 years old), will it read codes on an 08? i thought ECMspy was not compliant with DDfi3? I know i can use it on all 03-07 models.

One more time, you can use the old ECMspy (or at least version 1.12.27) to check and clear your codes. : )

You don't need to have a computer hooked up to it to read the codes.
You can short two wires on the plug and have it flash out the last fault code recorded.

(see knowledge vault)

What time are you going to be home? Or better what is convenient for you? Really appreciate it. I've emailed you also...
Thanks all... Hopefully will be resolved tonight.

UPDATE....
Hooked up ECMspy to Johns 08 XT. ECMspy will read the running parameters BUT WILL NOT READ OR CLEAR TROUBLE CODES! An error message appears stating cannot read firmware version.

Has anyone used their own ECMspy to read trouble codes on a 08 or later buell? My version works on all 03-07 models.

I fixed Johns voltage problem, now we want to clear the trouble code (16 - Battery voltage)

Have you tried just disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

Worked for me.

Just start the engine and shut it off again 50 times, that'll clear the codes.
