I know, its probably been asked here before, but is it possible to purchase just the side luggage racks for the 06 Uly as parts from the HD/Buell dealer? or other sources? What are the parts numbers and what is the price?  I would like to keep my options open for the side cases, since I do not like the Journey side-loaders | ||

Do a search here for Outdoorsman bags. I have posted the instruction PDF a couple times...and that's your best bet. The journey brackets mount the bags the "wrong" way - attaching latch to the front - and mount them too far forward for any other HB bag to work well. At least, if you want to use passenger footpegs too. Outdoorsman racks mount the bags further back on the bike (you need the turn signal relocation bracket, too, to put them on the plate mount instead of where they are stock), leaving room for passengers who have feet, and they mount them the "right" way with the attaching latch to the rear...which I'm still convinced helps keep the insides dry in hard rain rides. These racks open up more possibilities for mounting "other" HB bags on a Ulysses. And yes, you can get them separately. You need a left bracket, a right bracket, and a bridge bracket along with the turn signal relocation bracket. Hardware, you can get at Lowes or Home Depot - it's standard stuff. | ||

Just completed this same deal. I purchased the XT brackets from Harley and mounted Hepco Becker Gobi bags, it's a no-brainer (thanks Itileman!!). The XT side bracket part numbers from Harley are 90085-05Y, (left) and 90089-05Y, (right). There's an x brace bracket that goes between the two, I didn't get that, but it looks like it might prevent the side brackets from bending in case of a fall. The mounting hardware is all 1/4-20 bolts. Just loosen up the footpeg bracket from the frame and bolt the brackets in. The H-B Gobi's snap right in. | ||

$83 each side. Took about 6 weeks to get from H-D. See my rant about the service dept, ("Hesitation at 2000 RPM") I really like this bike, the wierdness of it and the fact that where I live, you NEVER see one, just mine. It's a sea of H-D clowns out there, totally clueless. So now that Buell's gone, and it's only a matter of time before they won't service this at all anymore, I'll probably switch to a GS BMW in the fall. It's really too bad, Eric's a cool guy and really knows his s**t!!! | ||

The X brace keeps the brackets from bending when you LOAD them, not when you drop the bike. Get the brace. And XT brackets are the Journey brackets; they will limit your space for a passenger. Outdoorsman brackets came on the XP police bike. | ||

Does anybody have the parts numbers for the complete Outdoorsmann brackets, including the kit to relocate the flashers? | ||

Quick question. If I didn't haul a passenger, could I remove the passenger pegs and use the Outdoorsman bags with the stock brackets without any problems? Thanks, Murf2 | ||

Ratbuell, thanks for the info on the X brace. I have a local welding shop that can fabricate one in about 10 minutes. H-D wants $75 and another 6 to 8 weeks waiting. I bought this bike before I met my "significant other", she can get her instep on the passenger pegs, but not the balls of her feet, and we're both pretty big, hence the trade in for the GS. We both work , so there's not a lot of travel time involved. If she complains, I'll have to find a girlfriend with smaller feet. I had the rear turnsignal re-location kit, but returned it when the Gobi's fit without it. It's about $30. Just make sure you get all this info straight before you order anything from HD, the parts people here don't know Buell side case brackets from Jack Squat!!! | ||

Do a search here on badweb - rwven (Ron Vennell) makes these brackets, which are awesome:  They move the passenger pegs an inch down and an inch forward. Not sure if they'll clear outdoorsman bags on Journey racks, now that I think about it...never tried that...but they are nice for passenger legroom, and the build quality (billet aluminum, comes with the second pivot pin and E clip that are needed, snap right in place) is second to none. Does anyone have any info on the directional relocation kit? I have a set of Junior bags (Moto Guzzi on ebay now for $250)that go on nicely backwards but i need to move the directionals back a bit. Does the kit listed in the parts list above (M0232.1AUYT)move both back or just the right one? The description only references "RR". Any pictures out there of what the kit includes? Any ideas appreciated! | ||

WOW!!! Great info Court! It's great to see all the pics to see how my Journey rack set up differs from your Junior rack set up. I was able to get the racks used without the luggage.. I had a journey top box that I use on my K1200S. So I was good there. So I have been looking for side bags for a bit. I came across a set of new Moto Guzzi (40L Juniors with a gray painted top piece) bags and figured I could weld on new locking tabs on the back of the racks. After receiving the bags it looks like I will be better off just mounting them backwards and relocating the directionals. Going the other route leaves no room for use of the passenger pegs... as my racks move everything a few inches forward compared to yours. I'm actually surprised they don't look nearly as bad as it sounds mounting them that way!! The shape works fairly well backwards. Any way I will see if I can still order that part and if not I can pull out a piece of aluminum and see what I can make up. Thanks again!!! | ||

Just a quick picture of my uly with the Guzy/ HB Junior bags mounted backwards. I was going to weld tabs on to the back of the racks, but function (use of passenger pegs)and decent looks means no welding for me   | ||

Do you need the part # 11 lower bracket on the other Ulysses top and side case kit? Or is it only needed for the Outdoorsman set. |
