These many times, I went camping, and I have been back. I don't always get invited back to the same places.....but I continue to camp with my Uly. Some people say I snore a bit, but I didn't hear a thing! It wasn't me.....it was the hairy one! |

Wow-some of you pack a bunch of stuff. I don't feel so bad now. My city-x was about that loaded down and it handled fine. We'd never really loaded the Uly down, good to know it will handle well. Itileman-thanks alot for posting that creepy bear picture. Sweet dreams for me for sure tonight. My in-laws used to have bears break into their top loading freezer at the restaurant. They liked to eat pie and shrimp! I never had one decent night's sleep when I spent the night there. Ourdee-wht the heck is in the big silver box? B. |

Fltwistygirl I just stumbled upon this web site that is centric to the NW, and found a page that has a ton of good checklists for camping. I'm a big checklist guy from the years of backpacking. If you forget it out there well no going back. I dont have anything to do with the site, but thought you may like the info http://micapeak.com/checklists/ |

It's an aluminum skinned foot locker. Like a steamer trunk. I thought it made for a funny pic. |

Ourdee, I thought it was funny as hell, but you stopped short. It should have been turned up on the other edge and strapped on,then it would have been LMAO funny. .....Uh.....can I borrow your steemer trunk? I have an upcoming trip..... |

Keep laughing, I may actually pack in it and do that. I'd have a coffee table or night stand for my tent. |

An item that I ended up using more than anything shy of my bottle opener is the Wally-World tarp I picked up on the way out of town. Cover the bike @ nite so you can hop on a dry seat om the AM. - I always have lots of line w/ me & was able to arrange the tarp as a lean-to that protected the tent & at least the seat of the ride. I keep a weather radio in the tank bag; no weight, not much space but kept me out of some really bad stuff. |

I used to camp with just 2 tarps and a blanket. One tarp on the ground, second tarp in the air for a roof. No walls, curl up in the blanket and be able to see 360 degrees around. That's how I camped in the rain. |

You gotts ta go! We've been camping two up a few times, the Uly is an awesome pack horse! Queen sized battery powered mattress in top case, clothes (including perk coffee pot!) in side cases and tent, pillows and fleece blankets bungeed to the top case. Not exactly roughing it but I did enough of that crap in the Army! Have fun Tim |

Wow I'm amazed at how much some people pack on there ulys. I'm used to unsupported camping on a SV650 with only a middle sized tank bag and a bungee net. The only camping trip I have been on with the Uly was a 6 day trip from Tacoma Wa to Moro Bay California. I only had a tail bag and a bunge net. Other than having to find a laundromat in San Francisco I didn't feel like I was lacking a thing. Less is more. |

F skinner, I will be ariving at 11 Mile State Park on the 24th and have a site reserved for the 24,5,6. I will certainly holla when I'm local. Is 11 Mile as close as it seems to be to the Peak ? |

I haven't camped with my Uly but I've done some serious shopping with it. I needed a fax/scanner/printer and refused to take my truck. Made it home with no issues. My favorite way to shop. the Uly is the ultimate mule!

I finally found the thread..... Skinstains, 11 Mile Lake to the entrance to the Pikes Peak road is about an hour ride (maybe less). I will see you when you get here... Chances are (if you are going to 11 Mile on highway 24) you will go right by the entrance. If run into problems or need a place to stay please give a call. If you misplace my number it is in the BRAN. BTW: Doc came by today riding his Uly again.... He decided to ride in the rain and went down a few times in the mud when leaving his ranch. I had to hose him off in the yard. We are trying to get his email straighten out right now. Frank |

The Uly is one of the best "camping" bikes out there. You can load all kinds of crap on it and it still handles like it's on rails. BTW I just finished a 2-week trip with a new addition; a Luxury-lite cot. Before I got it I used to look for an excuse to get a motel room. This cot in combination with a Big Agnes inflatable is more comfortable than my bed at home and I now look forward to setting up camp. |

+1 on shopping with the Uly. We recently had a random guy stop by the house asking if we were willing to sell either of our cars as it appeared to him they never left our driveway! I use the Uly for any errand running I can. It keeps my budget in check and has tons of room for stuff. On on unrelated-yet-related note, I will be re-united with the better half who is delivering the Uly to me in Minnesota today. I don't know which one I will be happier to see ! |

A few months ago I changed the rear breaks on my truck and found that I needed new rotors....I wasn't about to wait until my wife got home so I took the Uly. Ratcheted those buggers to the pillion (cus they wouldn't fit in the top case) and the job was done before my wife even got home! |

Ratbuell, What type of rack did you fit to the top box? The same one that goes onto the glides? Thanks David |

You fit a spare belt, owners manual and tool kit under the seat? I'm impressed, as thats such a small place The tire plugger kit is shoved up behind the tail light. You can see the belt and tool bag.
The manual lays on top:
And the seat goes on:

Here was mine Sunday afternoon after 550 miles of mixed stone/dirt/blacktop riding. Note: You have to look close because my buddies R-1200 SX is backed in on the other side of mine, with him standing there. His trash bag luggage sort of looks like it is on the front of my bike. We just came off a 30 mile section of stone and dirt roads. Things were great, until we crossed over to the top of the mountain to discover the north face had been hit with a rain storm. There was around 3/4" of mud on the dirt road for the next 6 miles or so. It knocked the speed average from 35 mph down to around 15. I survived but by buddy dropped his BMW in the mud. Luckily there already was a scratch on the side he dropped it on. The bike actually was dirtier then shown here, but we just rode through 15 minutes of "fire hose" type rain on blacktop to get to this restaurant parking lot where I took the photo. Just after this photo we decided the dirt/stone roads were not safe to continue following on big bikes so we hightailed it home. Home was 300 miles away, and it rained hard 3/4 of the way. My new Dunlop 616's out performed my expectations in every way on this trip. Today I noticed the headlights turn on and off as I turn the handlebars. It's both beams and the euro light so it must be the ground. (Message edited by towpro on June 14, 2010) |

Here's mine loaded for a float trip a couple weekends ago...Niangua River, near Lebanon, Mo. NRO was the campground, we had a great time for a very reasonable price, free camping with float trip! Here's the wife and her zuki as we were packing up camp, she just had that one little dry bag on her bike...
