Historic & storied Pikes Peak International Hillclimb Race is this weekend. This is the second oldest motorsport race in the US, only Indy 500 is older.

High Country Buell has campaigned three years in this race; coming out of retirement, 40+ yr old Brian Anderson fairing best with a 2nd on a Buell XB12STT beating Harley factory racer Joe Kopp on the same bike. Last year Dalton Dimmick took a second on a highly modified 1125R having only ridden on the bike and the mountain two weeks before. 2009 we had to put two rookies on our bikes due to our riders both going down injurred weeks before the race.

Over 100 motorcycles are entered this year, with Ducati sponsoring a factory team with new bikes and several Ducati mounted privateers. Ducati has another Tracey brother, both having won in their respective classes last year, who is mounted on a 1200cc class that will go head to head with our High Country Buell XB12STT ridden by Walker Pew, built & tuned by Max Morath. We’ve been working on this bike for months, fine tuning, eeking out more power, tweeking the suspension. Last year Walker went down in an accident, as did our other rider Brian Anderson weeks before the race, so we had no choice but to mount two rookies to this very unique challenging race.

Tracey on his Multirstrada has been clocked hitting 120mph two places in the last race section which is all dirt to the summit from Devil’s Playground. We don’t care, we have Buell under us and a familiar rider. We’ll be on the mountain before sun-up cheering Walker on. Anyone interested in joining us, besides mountain side before sun up, the pit area at the base of the mountain is a great place to hang out too.

Small team attending this year. With no bikes to sell, hard to rationalize a spot for Fan Fest on Friday nite so relegated to spectator only. Last year we had the Broncos Cheerleaders at our tent, this year, no tent.

Oh well, its about the race, the competition, the ride.

Anybody come up with a way to watch this on TV? I checked DishNetwork but found nothing.
I know I have watched it in the past. Of course the coverage was always mostly just the truck class.

and Good Luck Dave, were all cheering for you!

The part of the video that gets me is when he's passing that dude at the near-90 degree right turn. He is hot into that thing and really has to grab a handful.

The other thing I would like to know is what tire he is using! I rode the course last June and it is COLD up there! (At least for a Texas Boy) We were on it pretty hard and when I got to the top, my tires were warm but by no means hot enough to be sticky. Tracey is one heck of a rider.

Good luck to the Buellers! We'll be cheering for ya!

We've found a Michelin track rain tire is best for the pavement and silty dirt. There are better tires for each separately but there is no changing a tire in this 10 minute race from 9,600 feet to 14,200.

Curious, I have tried to break 100 on the dirt with my KTM and in the 90's the tire starts to slip.
I am pretty big and push a LOT of air but is 120 really possible?

Jammin_joules, that tire choice makes a lot of sense. Be safe up there!

Walker took 2nd today in the race. Considering the Ducati factory-backed effort, with a multi-year winning rider and also Malcom Smith's grandson, leading their charge, Buell privateers took 2nd and 4th.
