A quick follow-up on my post from last week re: getting the ECM on my 09 XB12XP re-programmed. After installing the comfort kit and getting the bike re-flashed, I saw no difference in the fan behavior.

I returned the bike to the dealership today, who confirmed that the ECM flash was correctly done. The tech is going to check with Buell, but speculates that the XP ECM uses different logic than the XB in order to minimize the use of the fan while the bike is running to reserve amps for the siren, lights, etc.

Do any of you police bike owners or Buell techs have any experience with re-flashing an XP?

If the XP ECM is indeed different (I've also heard that it has a rev limiter) I hope the MoFoMoCo allows me to install the XB flash, even if I have to buy a new ECM. After all, very few (if any) of the XPs are seeing active duty as police bikes.

The XP does use a different flash than the XB's.

But, my XP was reflashed as an XB, and I have the fan working properly, (comes on @ speeds over 15mph) and no rev limiter (Hooray!).

Sperz1, thanks for the confirmation--I thought I'd recalled a few XPs being reflashed as XBs.

Did you have to jump through any hoops to get the dealer to flash it as an XB?

Actually all I had asked them to do was remove the rev limiter. They told me to do this it had to be flashed as an XB. It was really no problem for them to do it.

The fan on my XP comes on when I am riding, when it gets real hot, and after I switch it off. I have the RSS but mine has not been reflashed.

There should be a comfort kit flash specifically for the XP, if you want to keep it as an XP. There is a separate part number for the XP comfort kit; it should have its own flash.

For anyone that has had their XP reflashed with the comfort kit, is there any difference in the fan behavior? I have had mine done twice and there is no difference while the bike is running. I know there was a different flash for the XP but is there any difference to the fan on that flash?
