Hello I remember a post about the butterfly holding pin being broken on some Ulys, today I was having a nice ride noticed a small problem wit the throtle being stuck and strange noise from the air in take so i stopped and checked, and it seems the pin holding it it's on it's way out, i got the bike home with the road assitence, now I'm asking how do I get a new pin, and how to change it, i have the tools now i need the knowledge, Just took apart the air box and i confirm that the pin is broken, i need to know if i need to take out the whole intake body out to change the pin? any one can guide me?
Any one can guide me on how to make a new pin or where i can get hold of one?

Many Thanks and happy rides.

Pontlee77- unfortunately, the butterfly shaft is currently not available as a separate part. The only way to fix it using factor parts is to replace the entire throttle body, which costs $462 U.S.

New12R had his break last year and had a machinist fabricate a new one like this:

(Old shaft on top, new shaft on bottom turned 90 degrees relative to old shaft). Note that the new shaft is slotted which makes it much stronger than the original shaft.

Someone recently had a shaft break on a 2007 (see this thread): http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/569803.html

Tootal is going to try to produce a drawing for the shaft with dimensions. We're hoping someone will be able to make a run of replacement shafts, but I'm sure that will take some time.

Your best bet is probably to remove your throttle body and take it to a local machinist and have your own replacement shaft made. The photo above could be used to show what you need. I would think you could have this done for much less than $462.

Good luck.

question 1 seems throttle body 2007 is better, will it fit straight on my 2006 bike?

thanks.

The 07 will fit but there are a few 07's that have failed. It's the same design.

Just in case anyone's fabricating replacement shafts- there is a minor difference in the 06 and 07 parts: the perpendicular hole in the right end of the shaft (seen in the above photo) holds a pin that engages the TPS. This hole is rotate 90 degrees on the 07 relative to the 06. I.E.- you couldn't directly swap throttle shafts between an 06 and an 07.

It looks possible to mount an 07 throttle body on an 06, but you would also need to replace the TPS sensor. See this link for more info on the differences. The 07 TB part number is P0803.1AAA.

I didn't want my bike to be down for an extended period so I bit the bullet and ordered a new TB. The local HD/Buell parts folks didn't have one in stock, no surprise, but were kind enough to do a dealer search for me. Good news is they found an 07 TB at one of the dealers who offer 20% off for online sales. The 20% off took away a little of the bitter taste. Parts should be on my doorstep Monday.

Thanks guys, I stand corrected. It will fit but you do need the 07 sensor to go with it. Me bad! Since the pin for the tps sensor is on the end of the shaft, one could incorporate both holes in a replacement shaft to make it work for all of them. I haven't taken Maximum's apart yet. I have a beer festival next weekend and I'm in charge of collecting kegs this week to pour during the fest. Then there is homecoming after that. I hope to get to it after that.

Some of the late model 06's have the 07 style throttle body. david_e had to replace his TPS and he bought an 06 TPS but it was configured 90 degrees out so had to get an 07 and it worked. I'm not sure what build number bike he has.

Updated news the 2007 throttle body kit that you said was 400+$ comes with the injects and every thing, but the parts can be bought separate, so if you only need the main fold you can purchase it on it's own. i'll attach the copy of the parts that may help some one else

Well that sucks. I already bought the entire assembly. Two F'n dealers told me you that was the only way. Pontlee, where were you a week ago?

HI,

I don;'t see any part that says shaft though. Do you think it might be the "lever assy", part No. P002402A8?

Sorry, for not having been before, I just got it yesterday and posted 20 minutes after I got this info from a Dealer in the US, the dealer I deal with, is really helpful every time I need a part either Harley or Buell.

About the shaft, there is no such separate part so you will need part: P0013.1AA
at leas t it will be way cheaper than the 400 $ for the whole set.

Two F'n dealers told me you that was the only way.

That's what I'm seeing here... all those parts listed are also listed as separate in my 2006 parts catalog, except for the manifold casting and throttle shaft assembly.

Part #P0013.1AA is the fuel injector rail only.
