Was on my way home from work yesterday with just about 40 miles left to go. The Bike hesitated and then just started to slow down. Tried to give it more throttle, but the grip wouldn't turn. Pulled over to the side of the interstate and started to disassemble the air box. Thought maybe the throttle cable had separated from the throttle body and was pinched somewhere. When I pulled the filter plate, I saw something a little more serious.

The butterfly shaft had snapped and the throttle lever assembly was hanging from the throttle body. No way to fix that on the side of the road, so I put the bike back together and called AMA for a tow. The bike is an 07 Uly with 70k miles on the odometer.

I used to think this problem was only found on 06 models, but I guess the 07's are susceptible as well. $462.00 for a new assembly, Ouch!!

Dirt- don't drop $462 yet! See this recent thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/564293.html

New12R had a replacement shaft made for his 06 a while back and there's discussion of having a run of replacement shafts made. If the 07's are susceptible to this too, there'll be a lot of people interested in buying spares.

70k, sounds like you are getting your money's worth from the bike. I look forward to getting there with my bike some day. Sorry you got stranded though.

Getting my money's worth? Obviously, you have not looked at my profile.

Also, the 07 throttle body is slightly different than the 06's. Not sure a part made for an 06 would work on an 07.

The only difference in the throttle shaft between 06 and 07 is the "tang" for the TPS is rotated 90 degrees. That'd be pretty easy to accommodate.

OKC,

Sent you a response. My wife told me I sold the wrong bike. Oh well, The S2T was nice and fun to ride, but so is my S3T. Stupid as it sounds, and I know I will probably get crucified for this over in "Old School" but I like the S3 better than the S2. The S2's are made with nicer material, but just something about my S3 that I liked better. Plus, I like the blue bikes and the silver color of the S2 (sorry Frank S.) did not really do it for me. Just the way I am. Anyway, I guess I will be S3T'ing it for awhile. That bike has never left me stranded. I'm sure I just cursed myself.

I just received Maximums broken throttle body today. (Thanks Shawn) I will disassemble and try to reverse engineer the thing and come up with a better mouse trap. This is going to take a while so please don't wait on me. I can't go into production on anything. Once I have it fixed I will give a drawing to anyone that wants it.

Glad to hear Maximum's broken throttle body showed up! I was just thinking about that when I started reading this thread.

I'll be curious to see how the replacement shaft turns out.

It's wild how some folks have so many problems & others have so few. (2006 12X) I have around 34,000 miles they only thing I've had to do is have the front rotor replaced (twice) under warranty. Rear bearings felt a little rough back around 20,000 or so, but pulling the seals, cleaning the old grease out, & re-greasing them has gotten me to where I'm at now with no additional problems, expense, or worries.

I wonder if we could talk American Sport Bike into having a few of these made and adding them as a stocked item? Al?

Ok, maybe a stupid question:

In the case of a broken pin, it is possible to get it out without removing the magnifold?

And is it possible to assemble a new one without removing the body?

I know there are many hoses and the wiring for ETS and Lambda. But maybe its worth to not "get angry" the magnifold seals.

It would not be worth the risk of dropping a little piece of it or a little screw down the intake port. The seals are not that big of a deal to do and quite cheap to replace.

The only special thing I did for removing and installing the intake, was to cut off a 1/2" wrench so that the left side bolt was accessed easier. It was a wrench in my son's home tool box so no good tools were harmed performing this deed.

Ok, you're, I haven't thought about the intake port.

Thanks.
