Hello and hopefully I could ask a couple questions. Love by new machine but am curious. This fan when I shut the machine off seems rather loud and goes on forever. Is this normal? Also, when I filled up with fuel NOT overflowing the filler cap, fuel was spilling out below the bike over the swing arm. I've never seen the before on any machine. What's with that? Finally, there seem to be a couple stumbling spots at lower RPM in traffic. It's more an annoyance than anything else.

Finding my way and absolutely love the XB12XT. Thanks for any feedback.

Your fan operation is normal. If your bike has low miles, fan operation will be reduced as the engine gets broken in. It takes about 5000 miles before this levels off. There is a more current flash for the ECM (engine control module) that changes the fan operation. With the newer scheme, the fan comes on as soon as the engine gets warm, and stays on whenever the bike speed is above 15 MPH. Below that speed the fan shuts off, unless the engine gets really hot. IIRC the fan will run for a short time after you turn the bike off. The updated flash itself is free, but prices to have the dealer install it vary widely.

As far as the gas overflow, DON'T fill up to the filler neck. Look inside the neck and you'll see a second hole about an inch down. When you fill up, stop when the level gets to that hole, and you will rarely have gas come out of the overflow tube.

Thank so much. There's no way gas all over the ground can be "normal". I'll have to be attentive to how full I fill it.

The ECM item is puzzling. I've read a lot about this from owners and would have thought a machine picked up just before Christmas would have the latest data available delivered to a new buyer. Does one have to ask?

The mileage is still very low so I'll continue to learn as I go. Much appreciated.

My mileage went from about 28-30 mpg...mixed driving to 42-45 mpg. The increased mileage was noticed at 14,000 miles.

Highway only...I have gotten 58 mpg.

I love my buell and it just seems to get better with age!

Unless you're hitting the road immediately there-after, only fill gas up to about 1/2" below the bottom filler hole. This allows for expansion when the cool gas hits the hot frame.

If your hitting the road, you'll drink it at a similar rate to the expansion, so you can go ahead and fill it all the way up to the bottom hole.

As mentioned before, the fan operation is normal, but can be remedied with the installation of the comfort kit and flash.

Yes it is. Gasoline expands as it heats up. With nowhere to go, the only place it can go is out the vent tube. In some cases, its just gasoline vapor that condenses and will drip. If this really bothers you, a California carbon emissions canister can be installed.

Only 58? Keep the front wheel on the ground : )

Just breaking the 5500 mile mark or so lately and have been getting a consistent 45 - 50 mpg. Mileage went up after the first oil change (switch to synthetic) and has been slowly creeping up. Will monitor carefully on next trip (3k in 7 or 8 days) so I really know what it is on the highway versus twisties.
