Well, I finally got around to installing the comfort kit I purchased six months ago; well, 2/3 of it anyway. Just with the scoop and the header cover there seems to be a marked decrease in the sensible heat on the right thigh. I'm actually wondering if installing the shroud under the seat will make that much additional difference. Anyone else out there install this thing in increments as I am doing and have any anecdotal evidence to share in this matter?

One thing I don't like however, is the fit & finish of this kit. I wish they went through a little more effort to match the scoop to the one on the left. I find this scoop kind of an eyesore and the gap between the upper edge of the scoop and the frame rail makes it look like a very quickly and shoddily designed after-thought.

Yeah that right scoop def looks dodgey. One of these would look better. http://www.srwmoto.com.au/air-scoop/pegasus-custom izing-right-side-air-scoop-for-xb-and-xb-with-micr on/prod_104.html

Id say fitting the additional parts will certainly aid air flow.

Thats only about $100 US lol

That was only an example. Id say using that link you should be to source the maker which id presume would be in the US and cheaper.

Yeah, I did think later that is was probably Ausie dollars. Hmm, it may be worth sourcing that one. The OEM piece is truly fugly.

Actually, that's currently about $280 USD. Ouch.

Anyone have the link to a good 'how-to' for the underseat part? That's on my list of things to get installed soon.

EG came up with a great way to do it! take off the rear frame rails and tie up the rear. I wish I could find the thread, I;m wanting to do mine today.

I installed mine on a hot day and didn't remove anything. I'm not going to recommend it, because I don't want to hear about it if you break something, but it worked for me (and a few others...).

Report on the effectiveness of the scoop with no under seat air duct -

I commute about 17 miles one way to and from work. Any time I have made this commute, whether in the heat of summer or single digit winter nights, the fan would ALWAYS come on when I shut off the engine after making this commute. It still will when it's warm, but tonight the fan did not come on after the 17 mile ride. Granted it was a cool evening, but the fan has never failed to come on after this ride, regardless of the weather. So my assumption is, either my fan's busted, or the scoop, in fact did keep the rear head cooler.

EG's idea:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/561752.html?1273085996

I did mine today, and holy crap, I actually did it! Used EG's idea, and it worked for me. The picture in the directions failed to show how to put it in, or how it should look when all done, with everything back in place. They show a "middle" picture that was only kinda useful. I'm glad I went with EG's method, as it seems easier than the "instructions". Took me a moment to understand the shroud goes under the "lower shroud" and once I did, it went into place easily.

You still need to take out the fuse box, so you can remove the battery pan, and ground wires. On my XT, the side rails connect to the pan as well, so there are a total of four bolts, and one screw on each side to remove. I used the torx bit from the "big" Buell tool kit(bought from grharley), and a 5/16 gear wrench in the tight spots. Guess I could have used my harbor freight mini bit wrench and the torx from the basic comes with the bike kit, as well...

Did not put on the scoop, or header shield. I have an aftermarket scoop on already, but might use the inner piece as it would be a better fit. After market did not have inner piece, and is only screwed in at two places instead of three. I'm using a header shield off a road king, which like. Gives it a touch of chrome, and I love the eye roll I get from the HD guys!

All in all, I'm really glad I did it. More experience, more knowledge. Tried holding off, but the 150 mile run from Little Rock to home at 90' and high humidity was enough to put the kit in before I go to Minnesota this weekend.

THANKS EG!

And Mike, I did it, which means you'll be board from lack of challenge.
