I have an 06 Uly that has been kind of a pain in the rear. here is a list of things that I have had to fix since I bought it new in aug 06.
1. Stator
2. regulator
3. Wheel bearings.
4. Drive belt now i'm ready to change it again...it's on its last legs.
5. Throttle Position Sensor.
6. Battery.
7. Exhaust actuator cable.
8. Now throttle cables are bad so i have a set of throttle cables on order.
9. Fork seals
10. 1 set of tires.
11. brake pads front and rear.
12. Had to fix an electrical short in the tail section where the wire had rubbed the frame and chafed through.
13. another wire short in the area where the harness passes over the engine on the left side.
14. Horn because the horn quit working.
15. rear brake rotor because I was stupid one time removing the rear tire.
16. Fuel pump wiring harness because it burned up.
Does this seem like a lot of things to you? The bike has 26000 mi on it.
17. hard wired 77 plug.
18. hard wired 46 plug.

I've got an 07 with ~25,000 miles. I've replaced rear wheel bearings, belt, and 77 connector.

Yea, I'd say your list of repairs is a little excessive. It's a first year Uly; some of them had more problems than others. OTOH as long as your fixes hold up (and these problems don't repeat), I wouldn't worry about it.

Lube your throttle, idle, and muffler cables on a regular basis. It's preventative maintenance and you should get well over 50k out of a set.

So far on my '06, I've:
Gone through three sets of tires
Replaced the belt once
Replaced the rear bearings as PM with black seal ones
Changed the oil a bunch of times
Changed to '07 fork springs
Done regular maintenance
Added some farkles here and there.

Buells are like anything - take care of them, and they'll take care of you.

I love the "I'm an idiot" line items. Those are hilarious. Even though I can't picture what you guys actually did to cause the repair (I'm not mechanically inclined), it still needs no further explanation. I'd like to see a financial analysis of repairs into 2 categories. Like a pie chart.

Category 1: Repairs that were not my fault
Category 2: I'm an idiot repairs

How many $$$'s are in each category for you?

Yes.
After excluding consumable items, and repairs because of malpractice.
The list is still quite long; IMO your bike suffered a lot of problems.

Yup it seems long after the normal wear items are removed from list. My repairs have been Voltge regulator, the plug for the VR and also the plug that connects the stator to the vr. I also needed to replace a fork seal at 18K miles so had both replaced and had fork maintance done at same time. For preventive maint. I have installed the black seal bearins at 20K, a second generation belt to use first gen as spare, did work on fuel pump to prevent chaffing of wires, rerouted wires under seat. installed and added the new clutch cable holder by the front exhaust pipe, boot for wires at steering head. However today is the second time I have been stranded alongside the road. Will take some time to figure this one out.

The only I'm an idiot item I had was the rear brake caliper and caliper bracket and rotor. I was removing the rear wheel and kept cranking the axle out even after i felt a lot of resistance and then heard a pop which was the caliper bracket braking and the rotor bending. I was an idiot for sure.
I think there waas a thread on this happening to some one else. if you're removing your rear axle and feel resistance and actually see the swing arm spreading something is up and you should stop before you hear the pop.

Normal maint, couple recalls, battery and a set of tires. ALMOST lost a shift linkage screw...but didn't. No complaints at all.

25000 miles. Tires, oil, rear spark plug at 5,000 miles. Battery last season. Warranty on muffler, and recalls. Nothing else. Can't complain.

I put 28K miles on an 06 Uly before selling it when I picked up a 2010 model.

Nothing unusual to report in my owner experience other than 3 failures of the left fork seal.

Total cost of ownership and maintenance chores for my 06 were on par or lower than other brands of bikes that I have owned.

I think that Buell owners need to pay a little more attention to their bikes than some other brands because of the vibration that is inherent in the design. Some careful examinations avoided future problems on my bike.

All in all, I prefer Buells to any other bike that I have owned in past including HD, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha and one of the big factors for me is cost of ownership and easy self maintenance.

two flat tires, two sets of rear brake pads, one set of front. four headlight bulbs, and one set of rear bearings.

Only left me stranded once with a rear tire that I couldn't get fixed.

Some of you dont' seem to be going through tires much..I go through a rear tire in 5K miles. I see that Kurbennet has 25k (MILES?) and claims ONE set of tires. Wow.

Anyway, my list of bits:

Front fork seals
Rear wheel bearings
Exhaust actuator
Drive belt
Voltage regulator
Hard wired my 77 connector
Fan
Replaced rocker cover gaskets
Front rotor
ECM
And here's a long one: After having my rocker covers replaced, I was riding along and suddenly it got loud and hot. The front header had come detached from the head, rattled around so much that the rear sheared, pulled out the O2 sensor, and the whole thing shook around and beat the crap out of the head. Pipes, sensor and head all replaced. Although it was out of warranty, several obsequious calls to HD customer service resulted in it being paid for by the factory.

15,000 on my '06. Here are the things that I HAD to fix or else the bike would be unsafe or inoperable (i.e., not including normal wear items or recalls handled by the dealer) or less-than-whole:

Nothing.

Seriously. The only issue I've had was the hesitant starter/washer-on-the-battery-bolts trick. Okay, I lied. I need a new gasket on the gear shifter - some primary drive oil is weeping out.

Hit a deer, but that wasn't the bike's fault.

15,000 miles isn't a ton, I know, but it shares my time with a Harley and some rental bikes. It's currently in the shop getting its 15k service.

My 06 Uly has 28,500 miles on it.
I have been through two sets of tires and one rear tire.
Oil changes every 3k.
One belt (peace of mind).
I have replaced some fasteners as I wear them out (replaced them before they give me a fit).
That is about it. I hope I did not jinx myself in putting this down on the forum.

Some of you guys are lucky, My bike has 26K on it now and I've had to replace lots of things. I did a bunch of maintenance/upgrades recently, goon a long ride to Greece and 54k from the house the bike leave me sitting on the side of the road for the third time since I've owned it. This time it was the charging system and after troubleshooting after I got home I have to replace the stator, volt reg, battery and fan. The trouble started while I was in Greece and I nursed it home, well almost... I have the Ft Bastard volt monitor installed and that hos I knew there was trouble. I just hope there's nothing else that needs to be replaced after I get all of this stuff swapped out. i do a lot of preventative maintenance to the bike but it always ends up breaking something that I didn't even touch on a totally unrelated system.....it's getting old! I never had this much trouble with a motorcycle!

23,000 miles
Items other than normal maintenance/wear:

stator at 2500 miles
BAS/kickstand recalls
fan at 20,0000

Not bad at all.

I have 15,500 on my '06 Uly and have had it since new.

I have done:

Oil Changes with Syn 3 every 2k miles
2 Primary/Transmission changes with Formula +
Front Brake Rotor and Pads
On third rear tire (on one a staple punctured it)

That is IT! Normal maintenance Items only, kept the cables lubricated and they are still good, belt looks fine, supposed to go 40k anyway right? : )

Wheel bearings have given me no indication they are ready to leave me stranded so they are on there.

Lowest TCO of any bike I've ever had.

80,658 miles (as of this evening) on my 06. Non-maintenance repairs:
Clutch cable
Rear wheel bearings
Oil cooler
Front mount
Right fork seal
Voltage regulator
Fuel pump wiring
Front wheel (not the bike's fault- I hit a 4x4 at 70)
That's it so far (knock wood). Everything else has been normal maintenance or farkling. I'm still very happy with it.
Can't wait to see what Erik will make available to replace it with someday!

80.000 thats nuts. I hope mine lasts that long. It should go for a while now after installing a third drive belt intake seals and new throttle cables. Cleaning moisture out of primary shortly. Still really like the bike.
