Have a number of things I've been thinking about posting but haven't had the time .. lazy Sunday afternoon, so here goes. Did two mod's late last year ( Nov - Dec ). Added a garmin nuvi 500 and a volt-meter/other meter. The GPS is GREAT .. still learning how to use it but i really like it. The nuvi500 is the low end of MC GPS's but I just could not pay the $$ for a high end unit. Only thing is, the mount for the GPS just clutters up dash. I'm already running bag's almost 100% of the time ( ugly but very, very useful ), with the dash already honked up by the GPS I added a gauge for the volt meter. Busy Busy ugly dash  Works well, voltmeter is nice, after having a 77 connector go AND a few moths later .. the stator ( and the VR .. one of the two fried the other ) go bad I'm all for a volt meter. If did it all over .. I would not do it this way but .. until I get more creative, it will stay. I made a crude attempt to water-proof the gauge by taking it apart and basically filling all the holes and edges with silicone. Seems to have worked as I have been through a few hard rains and a number if lighter rains .. it's still working. I wired up the meter wrong .. supposed to wire it to a always-on ( right to the batt. ) source .. however, I accidentally made something I like. By not wiring it to the batt, the clock re-sets each time I start the bike. Now I have a clock that shows, how long the bike has been running, warm-up, how long I've been riding ( from 12:00 - resets each time ) .. I already have a clock on the bike ( that I never look at ) so I am going to keep it wired just the way it is. OK .. have a few ride reports to post but .. not a huge, share on the web kinda guy. | ||

You call a GPS and a voltmeter busy?  GPS, XM radio, volt meter, HTC Windows 6.5 Smartphone, Veypor race computer. I just need to put it all back together now  | ||

I use the same volt meter, I like it because it also has the temp. and a clock. Yes I know the bike has a clock but I like to keep it on the trip meter. This way I don't have to toggle it to see the time.  | ||

By the way I also took the volt meter apart and "water proofed" it. It still gets water in it when it rains but works again when it drys out. The vibes from the bike will break the wires where they attach in the meter so I re-enforces it with shrink tube and apoxy. | ||

7873jake - the arm and the handlebar clamp are RAM parts, the mount itself is the hardwire unit from garmin. Froggy - Sure that's not the cockpit of a 747 ?! wow 12bolt - I like the mount, that's slick. The shrink tube sounds like a good idea. | ||

At one point I had the XM Satellite radio mounted to my bar, two speakers mounted to each switch housing and a Zumo 550 GPS. Needless to say the XM system that came on my last bike and made it to my Uly didn't last long. I think I ended up giving it away. Can't hear anything with a full face on. | ||

12bolt: How can I get more info on the volt meter? Is the temp ambient or engine's? Thanks. | ||

Bluex: It's a 5-function thermometer clock or something like that, they run around $25 It has ambient temp and an external temp sensor, but it won't be water-resistant if you don't seal it up some how which will make the ambient unusable. Not sure if the probe will be able to read temps as high as the engine gets. | ||

How does the Nuvi do on the Uly? How long have you ridden with it? I got a 550 for my wife's car and have been wanting to steal it for the bike. Do the vibes shake the heck out of it? | ||

Nuvi 500 works GREAT. It's virtually identical to the Zumo 220, minus the bluetooth.  Mounted using RAM RAP-274, which leaves only this little socket when removed:  |
