I've searched and read many threads about this. I've also seen pictures that show the engine rotated more forward than I currently have mine. I used the service manual to get this far.

It does not mention throttle cables, but it seems they'd have to come off to rotate further. I'm doing a rear rocker box gasket. It seems low enough to me, but Dr. Greg's picture shows his much lower. Of course, he has the heads removed.

Any thoughts or opinions on how low to go and the throttle cables?

I've rotated mine 2 times... the first time I did the same thing with the throttle cables (had to jack it back up and remove the cables). You really need to remove the throttle cables from the throttle body side.

I'm guessing yours looks like this....
Right after I took this pic.. I jacked it back up and removed them

Yep, I have rotated many times and always detach the throttle cables

I just replaced my rear rockerbox cover gaskets and there is no need to remove the throttle cables if you have a wobble extension or wobble socket. You really only need about 3" of clearance between the cross bar of the frame and the top of the rockerbox covers, if that.

It only adds a few seconds to make sure everything comes out and goes back in ok.

I don't know if you are trying to remove the rockerbox cover from underneath/beside the frame, but you can easily fit up up through the frame.

I have an XB12R, and recently did an engine rotation. My manual said to remove them in the middle if a paragraph. It was one of the last things I did. I'm not sure about yours, but mine will hold up the rotation if not disconnected.
