I have an 08 XT and am interested in adding the RSS. I would get the entire comfort kit but am trying to save a few bucks and figure the RSS will at least help a little with the heat. My question is do I need to get both the inner and outer portion of the scoop or can I get away with just the outer one for like $25. |

You will have a hard time mounting the outer one without the inner one. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A17360.html |

The outer RSS will help. I have a full kit ready to be put on, but already had a RSS from another deal. What I'm doing now is using the RSS, and a super home made heat shield under the seat. The heat shield is about 6-8 layers of aluminium foil folded over and held in place with gorilla tape. Getto I know, but it seams work. I also have a header shield from a Road King, an idea I got right here on BWB. I'm waiting until it gets really hot to see if I need the full kit. I like the warmth in the winter. I would love a semi-permanente shield, might go the Spec Ops route. |

Froggy I'm looking here on the parts breakdown and they don't seem to 'connect'. In other words they seem independent from each other mounting wise. Part #M0851.7AA (outer) seems like it could mount by itself. Am I not seeing something? I've never seen a 2010 Uly so I have no idea what the RSS looks like mounted. Whisper- Thanks I figured it would help some. I'm not sure of your aluminum foil heat shield though. Do you have a pic of that? |

How do I change pixel size. Every time I try to load a pic, I'm told it's to big. |

The outer mounts to the inner. Trust me. I've got it on my bike, installed it myself. You canNOT mount the outer without the inner. At least, not the Buell part. |

I have the RSS on my 2009 and you mount the inner part and the outer mounts to the inner.... (that sounds kinky) Anyway, trust Froggy and me! |

I have a comfort kit here that I can't currently install as it wont fit my bike (don't ask). You *may* be able to attach the rear most screw, but you still couldn't be able to attach the front two mounting points. Perhaps you could fabricate something to hold it to the engine brace and hope the force of the wind doesn't tear it, but for the time and effort just spend the extra $20 and get the damn thing |

I think both pieces with screws only cost me around 30 bucks... |

Whisperstealth I don't know what program you are using to resize the pics but this is a great program to organize and resize images as well as basic editing http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm best of all, its free. |

So's Paint. It's an OEM load on Windoze (under start menu / accessories). Go to your image, right click, choose "edit", and it should open up in Paint for you. Go to Image menu, stretch/skew, and enter a number smaller than 100% in H and W. Boom. Resized. Save the new image (I use the same filename with a "bwb" on the end), and post that. If you're unsure about downsizing it enough, you can close the image, go to where you have it saved, and depending on your settings you can either hover over it or right-click and get the properties for size and H/W measurements. |

I'm going to install the scoop for the comfort kit today. I will not install the fan shroud yet. I really have no roasted leg problems, since I started using a sheepskin. I just want a little better engine cooling. Froggy can attest to my fan running for like 3 hours after shutdown. |

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will be ordering inner and outer scoops tomorrow when my local dealer opens. I'm looking forward to slightly cooler rides in the near future. |

Fan ran all the time. Winter, rain, highway, backroads, in town. Didn't matter. Now with scoop fan running has been reduced by about 75%. Very pleased. |
