OK, I've pretty much had it with being charged a fortune for an oil change. What filter (and part number) are you guys using? I am going to change to a full synthetic. I have read a few of the threads regarding types of oil and shearing and such. What are you all using nowadays. My bike is a 2006 and has about 32k on the clock.

TIA,

Jonsocal

And here we go! : ) .......

I use a wally world filter, and so do many others. Oil filter: Wal-Mart Super Tech ST4967. Oil: Moble 1. 15/50 will work, got in both holes now, will go to 20/50 next time around for the summer, I'm only 2000 mi away from next change. Or will use amsoil 20/50.

You've opened a canO' oil thread, have fun!

This came from another thread

Oil Filter

Wix= 51394
K&N= KN-177
Wal-Mart Super Tech = ST4967
Fram = PH4967
AC = PF1233
Motorcraft = FL836
STP = S4967
Bosch= 3311
Purolator=L14476
PureOne is PL14476.
H-D=63806-00Y
AC Delco=pf1233
MOBIL= M1-103
BECK/ARNLEY = 041-8066
Napa = 1394
FLEETGUARD = HF6158

I've been using the WIX filter and Amsoil 20/50 in my '06 (55K miles)

Also from another thread..... by someone who knows much more about this stuff than me.

quote:

I would verify some of the filters on that list. I checked the specifications of some filters that I considered using from that list. I found that the bypass valve pressure setting is higher on a number of the listed filters. The Buell bypass should be 8-11 psi, many were greater than 14 psi. This is not a big deal on high pressure car systems but may be an issue on the low pressure Buell system. Just be careful, as an example, the above listed Purolator is L14476. This car filter has a relief valve pressure of 14-18 psi. Much higher than the correct WIX filter. The Purolator motorcycle filter # ML16822 relief is 12-15 still higher. I have always used a WIX filters because of their high quality and they publish specifications on all of their filters. I use a WIX Buell listed # 51394. It is the same as the NAPA 1394. I spoke with the WIX engineer and found that the WIX 51396 is identical but 0.5" longer. I will use it next time just to get a little extra oil and filter media area. The bottom line is, I will not use a filter from any manufacturer that does not provide specific functional data. Saving a couple $ on a filter is not worth it to me.

I use the KN177 and HD 20-50 for now, my bike has around 4500 miles on it. I'll switch to synth at the next oil change and either use Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Wix 51394 (May try the 51396 next) and Mobil 1 Vtwin 20/50 synth sold at Wally World (I use both because they are easy/convenient to find)

Run Formula+ in the primary side.

Just came back from a 2200 mile ride and was pleased with the performance of both.

I guess I don't understand why you would put a "wally world" filter on your bike with a good oil. If you buy a cheap filter you mite as well put in cheap oil. Spend a few cents more and do it right.This is why we bought a Buell in the first place...American made and a great American company!

Actually, I mis-spoke. The Wix is from Napa. The Mobil1 is from WM.

You can also get the Wix from Amsoil. I usually buy a case of oil and 3-4 filters at a time. Try to order mine and a few friends all at one time.. cheaper that way.

The Wal Mart Supertech 4967 filter is USA made. It differs from the Buell Black in that the relief valve is plastic and the Buell is a stamped steel arrangement, and the gasket is square in cross section rather than semi-circular.

I have GOT to post pics of the two I have cut apart in the garage...

Thanks Xbimmer for the pick me up.

I get almost all my ideas, and follow most of the research of the great people that have gone before me, have tried and put into practice.

I can't believe I thought of paying someone to complete my oil change for me. That was ridiculously easy! I went with the Mobile 1 V-Twin 20/50 and the Supertech ST4967 filter. I have 31K on the clock and this is the first time I have used synthetic oil. I'll update as to how the performance changes if any. (Now to replace that fan with the bad bearing......)

The Napa 1394 is what I use.It also fits my 140hp Suzuki outboard on my little boat.
