Been looking at boots for awhile now. Looking for boots that can do everything. Off-Road, touring, comfortable for walking, waterproof, year round comfort, fit beneath jeans, all at an affordable price. Well I've had to about tripled my original idea of affordable in searching for these boots. Anyway, extensive Advrider review's have led me to a few choices from Sidi, and a single Alpinestar. Sidi has, in order of off-roadyness and durability: Discovery $325  Adventure $375  On Road $300  I don't like the upper velcro closure on the Adventure and On-Road, and the Discovery is too bulky to fit beneath jeans. The cost of each of them hurts too. Which leads me to the Aplinestar Scout boots  They can be had for only (  ) $265. Waterproof, armored, full height, but fit beneath most jeans, and they actually look normal beneath jeans (not power-ranger-esk). I'm close to pulling the trigger on them, but they're more than double what I've ever spent on boots before, so I'm hesitant. Tomorrow's pay day, so it might be go time. In my Alaska-2011 preparation, the Uly's about done, which is leading me to gear. Boots, Suit, and Gloves are all on the list. Hopefully the Alpinestar's work for the boots. The Tiez Lombard is my suit of choice, and I haven't looked much into gloves yet. A year round waterproof glove will be in store. Anyway, any thoughts? | ||

You should take a look at the Alpinstar "Web" as well. It doesn't look as "Dual Sport" as the rest up here, but it fits your expressed needs perfectly. It'll do it all, including any off road you'll ever be doing on the Uly and it has all day walking comfort. MHO | ||

Hi - Got the Dainese Stivali Torque Out boots in November. Use them on the Lightning, Ulysses, and KLR. Thank God I was wearing them the next week when I smashed my ankle between the KLR and a 6' boulder. Sore, but no damage! Yeah!  Big velcro adjustable panels in the rear, plus a rear zipper for fast on/off. Metal toeguard is slippery and protective if you lean over too far - or so I've heard. Just had some service done at a local shop - turns out the mechanic rides an XB12R and has the same boots! I have been wearing out a pair of Tour Master Solution Road Boots for the last 4 years or so. Still waterproof, comfortable to walk in and fit under my jeans. Very conservative design. Not too comfortable in hot weather, though. Very reasonably priced- I have seen them offered for around $120 online. Give 'em a look. | ||

I have been wearing SIDI Canyon Gor-tex. they are extremely comfortable have protection but don't look the part of a dual sport boot. fit under jeans and look like normal boots under jeans. They are not the cheapest at $300  | ||

Don't be, SIDI boots are fantastic and worth every cent. I have worn the same pair for the last 2.x years, 60k+ miles, beat the living hell out of them in every condition including standing in streams, rain, snow, mud, crashed 7 times, a gallon of splooge from a catch can, and god knows what else. They are beat up and worn out, the sole is almost gone, the seams are starting to peel, one zipper broke, and the the clear plastic heel bumper is starting to turn yellow. I have the Scouts, love them, and so far completely waterproof. The only thing I don't know is how they will be in summer weather | ||

Hi, i have the disco's.. not done many miles in them but very comfy and waterproof , only slight concern lack of ankle protection , i'd go try the adventures for fit and protection if i were shopping today | ||

I too have the SIDI Canyon Gor-tex boots. They are wonderful, comfortable. I highly recommend them. A bit pricey, but considering that I purchased some Tourmaster waterproof boots for around $130 and the zipper broke the very first time I tried them on, I think the Sidi boots are worth the extra bucks. | ||

I have a pair of the Aerostich Combat Touring Boots. These are made by Sidi and have some great features. You can find them here; http://www.aerostich.com/off-and-riding/footwear . I love them and they're affordable. They have another boot just like it only not as tall called the combat lites. I'd almost like to get these to for day-to-day riding as the touring boots are made for heavy duty protection. But there's only so much a guy can buy............right? | ||

I'm "scouting" around for some new waterproof and armored boots...found some good info on ADV. The Scouts look really good, but are they a little "serious" for every day riding? Alpinestars Ridge boot is sort of the other end of the spectrum...I tried a pair on last weekend. I've got a pair of Fox Comp5S boots that I'm happy with so far. They fit under jeans, are comfy to walk in once broken in and only cost about $120. | ||

I've had the On Roads, and they are absolutely waterproof. Not too comfy for walking around, and there's not a lot of armor to guard against a crash. I currently wear the Discovery's, and like them for their true dual sport ability and crash protection. Riding in the rain for more than two hours does lead to damp toes, so I'm planning on treating them with Sno Seal. | ||

I was looking at Sidi boots as well. What's with that Sidi Discovery having no heels? I don't know about you guys, but I don't think I want a boot that I can't hook a heel on my pegs. Last week I had a zipper replaced in my motorcycle boots at the shoe repair shop. So I wore a pair of Nike 3/4 high outdoor shoes. No heel sucked. I didn't realize how much I used that heel hook. Just thought I would point that out before you made a $300 mistake. Good luck, | ||

Believe me, I already noticed it, and scratched it on the Cons side. I don't normally hook my heels, as I ride on the balls of my feet most often, But for walking and general thickness (the thicker soles the better for me), I don't like that fact. The sidi adventure looks to be an amazing boot, but I hate that huge velcro closure system for the top. My current boots have that, and whenever I flex my ankles much, it unvelcro's the thing. The second (upper) strap may help, but I'm not willing to try it at that rediculous of a price tag. My anti-velcro feelings are also why I'm passing on the On-Roads. The Aerostitch Combat Touring boots are probably my other choice. But they are not waterproof. They say that if you apply waterproofing, they should be fine in the rain. But that won't help water crossings or long rides where waterproofing can wear out. Plus, at $60 more, I don't think they're worth it to me. | ||

I bought the AS Combat Touring boots...They were a beast to break in, but I love these things. They are not waterproof, but if you treat them they are good enough. Growing up in the PNW where we are always wet, I have always chosen all leather with grease anyday for hunting, hiking, or whatever... | ||

I have had the Sidi On-Roads for about 2 years and love them. I have *never* had the velcro coma apart. They are water-proof but not too hot in Death Valley conditions. I do recommend them. | ||

Mine were called Oxtar Matrix gore-tex, but the name changed. They are comfortable, pretty well armored, fit under jeans and not too flashy. They leaked once, after an all day, heavy monsoon, down the Blue Ridge Pkwy. I don`t recall them being too hot. I like them and they are priced well too. | ||

I went through the same dilemma about a month ago. I settled on the Scouts as they have good ankle padding, waterproof and a good price as well. Haven't been disappointed. They are plenty warm though and seem to run very true to size. I don't regret the purchase at all. | ||

Mikef5000 The only boot I could find that fits my 14 FLAT wide foot was the Tourmaster Solutions boot. Waterproof, 90% anyway, some side support and a flat sole. Closure with a zipper and velcro. This is good since my right leg is fatter than the left and what can't be zipped is closed by the velcro flap. Fit under the jeans. $100 to $120 depending on where and when. I am on my second pair. I wear the old pair around here and use the newer pair, more water proof on trips. Tough enough to bust a skateboard in half when it shot out from under the SUV in front of me. It hit my front tire and carrined right and my toes and foot peg destroyed the skateboard. Bent my brake lever, busted the plastic under pan and it felt like I kicked a brick wall but the foot and boot were fine! HAhahaaaaaaa. This was while on the Strom. BDRAG | ||

I have had the SIDI Adventure Boots for about a month now. Can't say enough about the fit and finish of the materials - amazingly comfortable and rock solid construction. I got them after looking at many of the same boots you did because I wanted the extra ankle support they provide, on and off road. The cost was a serious impediment, but I sucked it up. Don't know about their waterproof qualities yet, but they have a good rep there too. Mostly I was looking for something just short of the protection and support an MX boot would provide that would still work on the road. These fit the bill exactly. | ||

I'm with Doc. Oxtar makes a lot of the boots for other companies like BMW etc. I've had mine for over five years. Still waterproof and are wearing well. |
