I showed first skulling (not all the way around yet), on my strada at 8270mi as the title states. Will most likely ride the 60 miles to where I'll change out the tire at my buddies shop. Thought I'd share for those keeping track on what to expect.

Factors:

Live in Hardy / Cherokee Village, Arkansas

Have 09XT, have ridden 50/50 as far as loaded/unloaded. I tend to pack a lot when on trips and runs, but run with only a tank bag and soft tail bag when running around town. I do always have 3 tool tubes w/tools, one with a water bottle.

I'm 240lbs.

Ride hard, but do not do wheelies or burn outs. PSI is set at 38lbs.

Lots of highway miles, but I do live on a dirt road and ride a bad/bumpy/country road just about every time I go out.

I'm sure I'm leaving a bunch out, but hope this might be helpful.

BTW: My roadsmarts just hit my door yesterday, not a mile too late... : )

That's some good mileage. The last Strada I had on for a trip out west was showing cords around 5,000 miles.

What is 'skulling'? Is that cords showing? I have 4300 miles on my Stradas and am considering a 5000 mile ride. The tires look great but I don't know if I could get that. I do on my Harley's. I'd hate to toss them with so much wear left.

Great Question Buellerxt. I thought it meant cords as well, but....

Starting to wonder myself. I'm thinking where I may be at are the "wear bars" if these tires have them. The lines/bars seem too fine to be cords. I really do not know, and would love some help here. These bars are right dead center in the tire.

Bueller, probably would not want to go on that long a trip unless you don't mind changing tires along the way. But at 4300 I had a lot of tread left, too much to simply toss. Look at where you will be in your trip at 7000-8000mi, and plan a change at that time. Planning ahead will help in not getting way over charged. You could even buy a tire and have it shipped to where you are going to be. - Like a present waiting for you: )
