Quick... Dunlop Roadsmarts or Michelin 2CT's, for those who've tried them both. Mileage and stick are the priorities. Gotta order tires today. Thanks in advance!

I've run 2CTs before and like them a lot. In fact, I'm picking up a new set this afternoon to mount tonight.

Dunno about the Dunlops; prolly OK too. I know, you asked people who'd "tried them both"...but since nobody responded I thought I'd be the smart-aleck.

Thanks Doc, what was your mileage on them and how did the profiles wear?

I like the 'Smarts, I'm just past the TWI's down the middle on the rear at just about 8K, but the rear is squared and the front is crowned slightly right of center. Makes the handling entertaining but less of an issue than the Syncs at about 6K.

Thanks for your sage input.

first let me state that I've only ran Dunlops D616 on my Uly and I love them.

Bienhoabob (Bob Clement) rides in the Iron Butt rides and use to ride his 2006 Uly on these events. I know he has tried Michelin tires on the bike although I don't know which ones he used but he switched to Dunlops RoadSmarts and liked them best of all the tires he tried. I know when he traded his Uly, it had the RaodSmarts on it.

He now has a Honda ST1300 and I know he just put new tires on it and I think he installed RoadSmarts.

The reason I'm posting this is because Bob is riding in a coast-to-coast and back event right now as I'm typing this and he won't be back until next week.

The event he is on right now is from Flordia to San Diego and back. I don't remember the amount of hours he has to complete it but it's hard ride. I'm just glad I don't have to do it because I couldn't!

I'm another RoadSmart lover. I put them onmy XT and really like them. I'll be taking the Metzeler M6s off my Norge this month even though they have a lot of life left, and putting RoadSmarts on it. The M6s are O.K. tires, but nowhere as good as the RoadSmarts, and I'll be riding from coast to coast and back next month.(but over three weeks; not in three days)

Thanks for the response guys. I was going to try to stretch it out until the weekend but a groove showed up in the center of the rear tire yesterday.

Since the closest Cycle Gear store told me they'd honor the website Package Deal for the Roadsmarts I drove the 40 miles to pick up a new set. Man I wish they'd open up a Cycle Gear here in San Bernardino, only place here is Chaparral and they know it.

I've had a set of 2CT's on my M2 and I replaced the 2CT rear with a Roadsmart. I run tires to the end probably 75% commuting. The 2CT front has about 18,000 miles. The 2CT rear was done at 9,000 and I'll get about the same from the Roadsmart. I feel the 2CT is a better tire but I'm not convinced it is enough better to warrant the extra money. My next tires will be a set of Roadsmarts from Cycle Gear with the deal they have right now.

My 2006 (bought Sep. 05) Ulysses now has a bit over 16k miles (I ride my CRF250X too much and the Uly not enough).

Anyway, if memory serves I have now gone through 3 Dunlop 616 rear tires and 2 Pirelli Scorpion Sync rears.

Both have worked quite well but on balance I prefer the 616's.

But I'm disappointed in the poor mileage.

So I just ordered a Dunlop Roadsmart rear tire which will go on Saturday.

I think the fire road / gravel road riding I do is modest enough that the Roadsmart will do fine. The question remains will my Ulysses shred the Roadsmart as quickly as it has the 616's and Syncs?

We shall see.

Meanwhile - at 16k I have gone through 1 616 Front and 1 Sync front tire and I'm halfway through a 3rd front (a 616).

I look forward to hearing updates on treadwear for the Roadsmarts.

After the stock D616's and 2 sets of Pirelli Scorp Sync, I tried Pilot Road 2's last year.
The rear is now 101% gone (zero visible tread except for the farthest 1/2") at 5K miles.
Was a great feeling tire, but this is about the same mileage I got from the Pirellis, and no better performance.

Went ahead and ordered a Roadsmart rear yesterday to try it.
The front PR2 should last the rest of this year, so let me call the front a 10K tire.

Note that I am in WNC, and we seem to get lower mileage than many in other parts of the world.

Xbimmer,

I might be a little late to the party, but if you want to try the 2CT's, you can get a set shipped to you for $220.95 from Sportbike Track Time (https://www.sportbiketracktime.com/shop/index.html). I've bought multiple sets of tires from them and have found them to be the lowest price for michelin tires...that's all they carry. I've used the 2CT's on my CBR929 (love them!) but not on my XT. I'm due for new tires as well and just can't make up my mind...2CT's, PR2's or Roadsmarts? However, can't find the PR2's or Roadsmarts for less than $264.98. Let me know your choice and results once you have some miles on your new set.
