I installed one of those voltage indicators that changes colors depending on the voltage output from the bike.

Today it was 90, I was riding slow back roads at 35mph with my Daughter. The fan was running on High. When when I pulled into the garage and the voltage LED turned Red at idle.
I turned off the high beams (both high and low run the same time, 35W HID's) and the light turned green. Now I have my Uly idling at 950, (ECMspy, running in the lower LS corner blocks).

Do you think my voltage dropped so low because my idle is low, or should I be looking at my 77 connector. (6K miles, already checked it once and put a little of that anti oxidant in it).

I am riding it several hours tomorrow, leaving early in the morning (no time to work in it), so I will keep my eye on the voltage LED.

Can't hurt to check, but the fan + low idle will cause that. I am used to seeing amber or red on mine with a 750 idle and running the Xbox.

I would guess the low idle is your culprit.
try giving it the normal idle setting.

That having been said, My old X1 has its idle set to 900 and has never had any problems.
(it was overheating in traffic with the faster idle)

Mine goes to flashing red with aux lights on and fan running. Had the output of the battery tested while this was happening and the output was good/to spec. I think a lot has to do with how and where it's wired in. Mine are merely connected with the plastic clips with the metal bar inside to the aux light line. I believe they should be soldered onto a hot wire for a more accurate read out.

Low idle (which, by the way, affects not only voltage but *oil pressure*), plus 2 headlights, plus fan running...ya, it's normal for the way you have it set up.

+1 on a normal 1050 idle. You lose the 'HD fag' brup-brup-brup-I'm-about-to-stall sound...but the bike will be happier and live longer.

+1 on what Ratbuell said. Keep the idle at recommended RPM.

Sounds good. I need to reflash my stock program back to the ECM before I can raise the idle. Then I would need to do a TPS reset. (I saved my stock eprom before I did any adjustments, and it needed a TPS reset, so that got saved also). It's time to go into the ECM to see how the AFC or what ever it is called is running anyway.

Today I never ran 2 headlights, but the fan ran all day, plus the netbook, GPS, 7" LCD monitor and the Autocom. The MP3 player (with Jimmy Hendrix playing) was running on it's own batteries.
Voltage Light stayed Green all day.

UMMM, Mine(kuriakin) has NEVER seen the red lights with both light on, fan running and Heated jacket and gloves at Idle, witch is 1050. 1000 Rpm is not going to drop the voltage below 10v.

My idle is back up to 1050, but I think my netbook charger (Eee 12V to 12V charger) was sucking lots of juice.
I blew a 10a AUX fuse tonight while out logging the ECM. All that was running was the laptop charger, voltage LED and autocom (but it did not have anything on the inputs). : (

My '06 with Kuryakyn gauge will routinely go orange (not red) at idle with high beam (single high beam plus 2x35w aux lights) and fan on. Go to lowbeam, back to green. Grips on, don't affect it...but jacket on "medium" (pulsing on and off) will pulse the voltage reading.

Also always-on is the GPS cradle, with no effect.
