Holy shite...
Have any of you named a kid Erik?
Most fun I've had on a motorcycle... hmmm... lets see... EVER! : D
A few complaints though--
My right foot seemed to "vibrate" forward on the peg, not sure if this a boot issue or what (I may still have a bit of oil on my boot from work yesterday) but I'll assume it could be fixed by adding texture to the peg or getting aftermarket pegs.
If the throttle was "blipped" at idle the bike would bog down.. When rolled on smoothly it just plain went. Not sure if this is a bike issue or Buell character. Not a big deal if you know about it but I scared the crap out of myself when I pulled onto the highway and the bike wouldn't go..
I really like the way it positively "clicks" into gear when you shift, every other bike I've ridden is quite vague in comparison.
Noted the clutch needs to be pulled in completely to shift, (not good or bad) probably just an adjustment if someone would want to change it.
Handlebar controls seemed much easier to reach and operate than on the BMW F 650 that I've been riding, but it could be that the gloves I'd been using on the Bimmer were too small?
I put the ball of my foot up on the pegs when I ride (not sure if that's right or not now that I think about it..) and the first time I went to shift I couldn't find the blasted shifter! I assume it's because I'm accustomed to the ergo's (riding position) of the 650 which are more upright and I was looking for the shifter too far forward. Had to look for it the first 2-3 shift but after that right on the $ every time.
I really liked to ergo's of the XB12X, much more so than the BMW.
Noticed massive head turbulence on the highway at about 65, but at the same speeds when I was in the twisties no turbulence was present. Driving the car back the same route I took on the X the car was being pushed around by the wind on the highway, looks like I'll hold off on the tall windscreen for now.
The sound! Hot damn! That is one exceptionally addicting sound. :P Cruising along you know the bike is running (yay! the BMW is too quiet and smooth for me) but it's not loud or obtrusive, roll on the throttle and off you go with a roar, deep and throaty that will bring grins (possibly even shite-eating grins) to all young-spirited persons who may hear it.

Right now the plan is to go back next weekend with the truck and trailer to pick it up, but I didn't leave a deposit just in case I (for some incredulous reason) MIGHT change my mind, although, I believe I'd have to be given one to not buy it, and at that I might have to buy a second, just in case.

Glad you enjoyed it. The pegs are easy. I have precision engineering 2" lower pegs. (Stock is 1" lower) There are others out there so no issue for better grip. If it's a brand new bike, not a demo, then the ecm probably hasn't learned the altitude etc. The throttle response should get better as you ride as will your gas mileage.

Probably boot, but there is a possiblity something like a loose exhaust can do that too.

Buell's can't be blipped. It has to do with the large throttle body. Basically what happens is you actually choke the engine by removing the vacuum. The large TB allows it to breath well at higher RPM's at the slight tradeoff that you can't blip it. Not sure why you want to anyway.

You can adjust to your taste : )

This can be fixed with a different windscreen and/or adjustable brackets. Every person is different, so you would need to experiment a little and see what works best for you.

What sound?? With the stock pipe you can't tell if its on unless its shaking.

Glad you had fun, now go buy an 1125R and never look back at the Uly : )

Sadly the test ride was pretty short. (Didn't want to rack up the miles on a bike I wasn't sure about... Next weekend I'll ride it again for a while longer before I bring it home.
2.5hr drive to get to the dealer.. : (

"Holy shite...

I've ridden a lot of bikes but these Uly's are very special! Thanks for the review. Get it and ENJOY!

the Uly was built for comfort! Plain and simple comfort when riding a motorcycle. If you want a track bike, go with an "R", if you want an all-around motorcycle that you can ride for days at a time, go with the Ulysses.

When I got mine I had the headshake at speed - but then I just adjusted the suspension per the owners manual and a lot of it went away. Plus I crouch down a bit at speed so I'm not a huge windblock (i.e. the buffeting was making ME shake the bike) and lean forward to get more weight on the front wheel. It's better, but being it's got (relatively) soft long-travel forks it'll never be sportbike-esque.
