After looking thru several searches related to H&B latch/lock issues, I didn't see one that addressed my issue.

Is there a keylock replacement/upgrade to the latch mechanism that would let you open the case without using the key? Something like a pushbutton with a keyed lock feature.

I am trying to find a design that lets me open the case without using the key everytime.

I don't like carrying the key on a keyring with the ignition key, because it hangs down and rubs on the housing.

Bike is an '09 XB12XT with the factory cases.

Thanks!

I have a rather nice rub ring all around my ignition lock due to that.....The design of the latches precludes that type of mechanism due to liability reasons. I think that's why the key is not removable in the unlocked position either.

Mine came with a faint little tattoo pattern around the ignition from the case key and the previous owner. Still, it bugged me.

I took one of these units: http://www.amazon.com/Hy-Ko-Products-Apart-Keyring -KB116/dp/B000KKTJIY

and on the short, female end, placed the ignition key on the smallest split ring I could find. On the other end, I placed the side/top case key, my disk lock key and a house key that rides in my tank bag when the two halves are apart.

I put the female end of the take-apart-ring on the ignition key and insert it with the hole side up and nothing touches, dangles, dents or dings.

I am thinking about the pull-apart ring also. Only I am going to put the case key on the pull-apart and attach it to the case latch in a small drilled hole or maybe attached to the triple tail. Haven't really decided yet.

Kinda bugs me that the case has to have the key to open}.
