First off, i would like to thank everyone on this great board. I've bought my uly about a month ago, after searching and reading a lot on here, great info.

So I have a used 2007 black uly, with 6600 kilometers (now about 9200) complete with side cases/bags.

Now to the questions
1. I noticed some people tie-wrapped the rubber booth of the clutch cable adjuster around the cable. Does it get wrapped around the black outer shell, or around the bronze cable end?

2. The bike came with a tank bag, but it was never used. Problem is that the front straps (2x part no. 92169-05Y) are not in the bag, and the PO doesn't have them. It did came with a shoulder strap, strangely enough. Does anyone knows where to get the straps, as my dealer said it is unavailable for order.
Worst case, I try to find a shop that has the clips, and I make the straps from the shoulder strap.

The straps are obsolete and are no longer obtainable. Stupidly I didn't buy some spares before, I cracked one last summer.

If you have a canvas/tent/awning shop close to you, I bet they would be able to make one for you very easily

If you have to rig something up yourself, those helmet quick buckles that attach to the "D" ring work very well as tank bag connectors. I did a google search on the type of plastic buckles that come on the tank bags some time ago and they are available from several places online.

Put the rubber boot above the metal crimp and tie rap it directly to the hard black plastic outer cover. But only tie rap the top of the boot so condensation can drip out of the bottom.

The straps are not terribly difficult to replicate and if you need pictures, specifically of the rear strap, they would be easy to photograph or even remove and place near a ruler to photograph for replication. Let me know if you need that. (I'll have to learn how to post a pic but I guess its about time anyway).

The front ones could be made in about 10 minutes if you had the quick release buckles and some way to heat whip the holes you'd need for them to attach under the forward screws of the airbox cover.

The buckles are widely available in Army Navy stores, camping supply stores, some sporting goods retailers, and I think even in the camping sections of some WallyWorlds.

If there is a REI store nearby they carry strap material, and buckles etc. Just a idea..

I made the mistake of tie wrapping the clutch cable rubber boot. Seemed like a good thing to do at the time. Some time later after tie wrapping it ( maybe some months later ) I needed to adjust the clutch or something so I removed the tie wrap and that whole threaded nut thingamabob was all rusted out under the boot. It was fine before I tie wrapped it. Must of trapped moisture under the boot when it was tie wrapped. I oiled it up real good and got it to function properly again. No more tie wrapping it for me.

If someone could give me the length of the strap, from hole to end it would be great.

Electraglider, did you tie wrapped only the top side or top and bottom side?
I would think that if you only tie wrap the top side like Ulynut said, you can't trap moisture under it

The "strap" is about the same size as the buckle. They're short, only enough to attach a buckle to the front airbox cover screws.

The measured length on the rear strap (the one where the seat meets the airbox cover) is 12", which is the approximate length of the span between the two rear airbox cover screws. That strap is a T-strap and the T section of it extends up the airbox cover 7" when the buckle is removed and the strap is pulled to length.

The front two straps that connect to the airbox screws are approx 3" long. They are folded in half to wrap around the buckle and thus measure about 1.5" approx., when installed

The straps are 1" stock.

Thanks all, have been looking around for a buckle, but couldn't find one that fit.

Now I have removed the front buckles from the bag, and put new on it. Also made new straps from the shoulder strap I had laying.
I think it's good now, but only going to install it end of the month for a 2 week vacation.
I'll post some pics with it on the bike then, here are some of how I made the straps (if i get it working).

I cut the straps at 85mm, and heated them (so they shrunk 2mm)


Got some help from my mother, sewed the straps to the buckle



Next, I took a large nail and heated it up.
I just burned the holes through the straps, just large enough for the bushings. If you do this, just be a bit careful of the smoke.
