So after selling my Fat Bob in January and a few month hiatus from riding and Badweb, I decided to look for a bike again. Have been looking at Supermotos (don't really like them all that much). Started checking out some BMW's, but I always seem to get drawn back to the Uly.

I found an '07 for sale near my home. The ad says it's a leftover purchased from Gail's H-D only 2 months ago with 530 miles on the odometer and a fresh service. He is asking $6,900 firm. Am I correct in thinking this price is a bit high? Or is this a deal worth pursuing?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Doesn't sound too bad. If it's the bike you want, grab it!

With that low of miles that's a fair price for sure.

Let's see.

An $11k bike. 22 months of warranty left. 530 miles on the clock. For $6900?

Why in the world does that price seem high to you? It's lower than the MSRP-3k price structure that came around in October...and according to Buell.com's counter, there are only *39* (new - which with 22 months' warranty and 500 miles this one practically is) Ulysses' left in the country. I'd get it while you still can.

someone once gave me a good piece of advice: $1-2k one way or the other doesn't make a difference if it is the bike you really want. the worst mistake you can make is buying a different model than the one you really want, only because of price. You'll always wish you had bought the one you wanted.

If I was looking for a Uly, I would have already purchased it before even mentioning it on here, because someone else will snatch it soon at that price.

Don't make the same mistake I did. I test rode a Uly in August and didn't purchase mine until the following May. Look at all the fun good riding I missed-out on! Nine months of missing the best motorcycle I've ever ridden.

I was devastated when the drunk hit me the other week. I thought my bike was going to get totaled out. Luckily all turned out well other than having to wait a month for my cases. My Uly is my dream bike. From the time I ventured into Gateway for the first time I knew I wanted this one specific bike. rides like a dream and has everything I want on it. So if it's what you want, make the dream happen!

I will play devil's advocate here saying that it seems a tad high for a used 07. 530 miles is nothing, but used is used. Saying that it is an $11k bike isn't fair either. It may have cost that much at one point, and be worth the money, because the bike is amazing, but it is not an $11k bike anymore.

All that said, I would still get the bike

Set up a time with the seller to look at the bike. He's only about 20 miles from my house. I'll keep you posted as the story unfolds.

Mideon, I like, and can identify with, your attitude toward your Uly. I've thought of buying a spare! lol It may have a few small 'issues' but it is also a very special bike that I have come to love. I've always been drawn to the Uly but since owning one, I have come to realize how special it is. Kudos to Erik and all involved in that bike. I plan to have mine for as long as I have a bike, which I hope is the duration. Sorry, again, about your run in with the drunk driver. Glad you are still here and wanting to get back on your Uly. Be safe.

The big question is, why did you sell the Fat Bob? I LOVE the look of those bikes! I have a Street Bob and am always glancing at the fat front tire of the Fatty.

Ok, I gotta ask before I go to check out the Uly today. The bike is basically brand new but... Is there anything '07 Uly specific I need to keep in mind/look out for when looking at the bike?

I have to agree with Hooper on that one. I thought the FatBob was a really sharp looking bike and was planning to buy one until this Buell deal came along. So far, I love my XT but I have to admit that the FatBob would have been my next bike.
What did you not like about it? I test drove at least 3 of them and thought it was great! I also test drove an XT but could not get a good deal on one until last November. I could not turn down a deal like I was offered.

The Fat Bob is an awesome bike, and looks great but it just wasn't doing it for me is all. I have nothing but good things to say about the Fat Bob, but it just seemed to be missing a little something. There was some aspect of that "fun factor" that was missing when I was on the Fat Bob. The Uly seems more like a do-it-all type of motorcycle and I think that will be more enjoyable for me. I guess I'm looking for a more versatile and sporty feel than what the Fat Bob had and am hoping the Uly will fit the bill.

Nothing in particular to look for with the '07's. I haven't done anything but change oil and filter on mine since I got it...oops...correction...changed the plugs last night with 10K+ on them. They looked like new except the gap was like 60 thou...new NGK iridium's in there now.

Brake pulsing

Those are just a few things off the top of my head.

Hey, my '07 has never fouled a plug or melted the #77 connector !
So I'm only batting .750

Wow, my 06 only had a pulsing brake out of those choices. I had some other problems but as far as that list goes, I did pretty good. Still wouldn't sell it!

PIZAT, There are really only three questions that you need to answer about the bike.

1. Do you like the bike?
2. Can you afford it?
3. Does it feel like a deal to you?

If you feel like you got a good deal that you can live with then to you its a good deal. You are the one who has to live with it. Someone will always say they saw or heard of something better, but if you're happy with it then who cares.

We all hope you get it and have many years of great riding.

Ok, looked at the bike yesterday. The thing is like brand new - only 540 miles and still has some of the nipples on the Perellis. I told the guy I would buy it. I'll pick it up either today or tomorrow hopefully.

I am very happy with the deal.

Froggy, other than a pulsing brake, how is a potential buyer supposed to determine if any of those other items exist? If the bike starts, runs and rides fine, I'd find it impossible to diagnose any of those other issues on a test ride. (not to mention that the bike only has 500 miles on it so none of the issues you noted are likely to even exist........'cept the TPS which likely wouldn't be noticed, either) side note, 3 years and my '07 has had zero issues as noted above.

Fouled plugs - Bike runs like crap, possibly only 1 cylinder. Highly likely on a old low mile bike.
Rubbed through plug wires - Wouldn't be visible without removing the plug wire, you will find out when you lose power first ride in the rain.
Bad wheel bearings - Unlikely to be an issue on a 500 mile bike, but its a ticking timebomb
Melted #77 connector - You would have to remove the front sprocket cover to check this. I recommend you replace this connector regardless of condition to prevent future issues.
Leaky saddle bags - Again, you will find out when your weekend's worth of pants get soaked in the storm.
Dim and/or flaking headlight housing - Flaking/melting won't be an issue for a while, but the stock headlamp assembly leads a lot to be desired. They upgraded the assembly for 2009 models. Not perfect, but better than the older years.
Brake pulsing - Will be obvious when you come to a stop.
Incorrect TPS setting - bike will run like crap or not run at all.

Intake leaks, rusty mufflers, broken horn brackets, strange electrical issues and pinging are some other things you can look forward too! : )

(Or you can get an 1125 and not deal with 95% of the above)

So do I just need to bring my truck and get your hated, POS, much-maligned Uly out of your way Froggy? I won't charge you any disposal fee at all...I'll just do it for the cost of the diesel from MD to NY and back ; )

FWIW, my '06 has been relatively trouble-free. No fouled plugs, no bad plug wires, 77 connector is perfect despite all my farkles. I broke a belt at 11,700 miles (my riding habits totally to blame there) and my oil cooler is leaking a little bit (warranty cooler is on the way). I put black seal bearings in the rear wheel as PM at 5k miles; now at 12k and no signs of a problem. Leaky bags don't bother me if they do happen, I hefty-bag everything anyway (but my bags stay dry for some reason, maybe the mud keeps water out!). I do have some brake pulse up front, and think when it's "brake time" I'll go with the EBR 6mm rotor and the new mount system they have same time as I do pads. That said, though, none of those issues would keep me from riding it anywhere!

Better to be forewarned and prepared. Rose colored glasses don't help anyone.
