I would have stayed with the thin bars. When you go down and something has to give, I would rather it be a bent bar than a bent fork or broken tree, etc. I've been there.

I was in gravel. Gravel should 'give' before my handlebars.

Pavement is one thing, but soft ground is entirely different, these bars bent WAY to easy.

There is no noticeable difference in vibration.

I bought a 79 XL250S brand new and dropped it the first day backing down a sand dune and tweeked the bars. Sand is soft.

New bars are on! This time I didn't mess with them, just cut the 'nub' off the control housing, added a layer of electrical tape beneath both housings to keep them from rotating, and everything is solid as a rock.
