The good thing is it busted in front of the bar...just over thirty two thousand kilometres if anyone is keeping track of the life span.. an 08, bought new last april.
Funny thing is the wear does not look that severe, no sign at all on the top of the belt..crazy.

Wow, terrible service from a belt, unless you were popping wheelers or doing similar things. As with wheel bearings, I'm more used to 100,000+ miles from belts. Glad you weren't stranded.

32,000 KM = 19,800 Miles
My 2008 belt broke at 16,000.
I wasn't doing anything weird on mine either.

Perhaps they got a bad batch of belts that year?

The longest life I've ever gotten from a belt was 43,000 miles on my S3. My 88 FLHS almost matched it with 42K and 38K on the two belts that I replaced on it. My present '08 XT has 30K on the belt, and Terri's Ss has 27K on its belt.
I've heard of people who get over 60K on a belt, but I never have. Now I just assume that the belt should be changed between 30 and 40 thousand miles.

I would take that assumption from now on. To replace at thirty or less, But just figured to get far more than this out of a non abused belt. The wear does not even look that bad on this belt..I have never done a wheelie on this thing, do drive it hard, like fast, but it has not been abused at all. No, really.
I had over a hundred thousand Kilometers on a road king belt. No problems. I am pissed about this, but what can ya do. I do have one, a spare waiting for me at a shop, it was going to be replaced next ride up..it is five hundred miles away. Damn. guess I will be getting it sent here. Do you actually have to take the fender off to get the wheel out. Was looking at the dismantle and reload in the service manual. MIght try to put it on myself, a good time to learn I guess..and any tools that are not included in the kit that I might need..guess that is posted on here somewhere..

No. Rear wheel can be removed w/o removing the fender. You do have to remove the bolts which secure the right edge of fender to the swingarm so you can work the belt between the swingarm and fender to remove it.

Thanks doc. Thought I had read something about that on here before. I might just try to do it myself instead of send it off. The closest Buell, real Buell place to me is two hours away. There is a shop here that says they will work on it, but not so sure.

2006, 18,000 miles, normal riding, snapped exactly like that last Nov.- no signs of stress or excessive wear...

I replaced a belt this Spring. It was tight and I had to remove the idler pulley to get the belt on (as the manual says). I did not have to remove the wheel but did have to loosen the axle enough to remove some tension (about 18 turns). I did remove 3 bolts from the rear fender but not the whole fender.

I did find the belt had been stressed by some material that damaged the belt and scratched the idler pulley. It was good to look around in there but all was ok. I am glad I did it and I know the torque settings are all done correctly and the latest belt is installed.

There are some strong cautions in the manual about the sequence of assembly. The frame section has to be reinstalled and full tight to torque before the axle is tightened for instance (if I remember correctly). I was going to do that last but changed my plan based on the info in the service manual.

Go slowly and carefully with the new belt and expect it to be TIGHT.

45,000 miles and counting on the belt on my FXDX. Maybe I should think about changing it. Except I never ride it anymore.

Belt replaced under warranty..nice..I had a starter issue as well..put in a new battery and it was fixed..also under warranty..gotta love that warranty stuff. Amazing when it works..
