I have a couple things that may have happened.

Ok.. so I got my HID's installed, just needed to align them proper, so I go out to an industrial park near my home to use their wall. I think...hmmm maybe I should bring my laptop and EMspy...being that it is night and I will be able to see the screen good (vs daytime which suks) I figure...I can load (try) a 2006 racemap or 2007 map?? NOT.

Well... having NOT read the manual... (that alone should qualify me to punch myself in the face) I dove right in. I loaded the eprom from 2006 race, hmmm it loaded ok.. I also reset TPS (I had already done that one) but I think I reset the AFV...it was 100% already but I clicked the button anyways. Needless to say... I started it up but it ran like crap.

Tried to reload my old eprom/maps but that didnt help. Reset the TPS... fiddled with the idle screw (was allways tough to turn) no luck. It started, idled ok... hit the gas and it dies. Got to fiddle with the throttle to keep it running. Took it on the road and it was a nightmare... I had to constantly rev it up to keep it running. then the oil light comes on. (oil is ok) I just rode it home. It did read a trouble code... I forget exactly... but it was an 02 sensor code and said "allways lean".

Today I tried again but still no luck getting it back to where it was. I cleared the code via ecmspy, and was able to reload a backed up eprom. But it still not fixed.

I tried again to reset the TPS,... hmm the Idle screw seems very loose to turn now and I don't think it is working correctly. So something happened to that as well. Now, I try to start and it runs for 3 secs and dies. I wasn't able to keep it running via throttle. Then ..(I believe) the battery lost juice because it would turn over for just 1-2 secs then click-click-click. (I would hear the fuel pump cycle 1st)

So as of right now I am just trickle charging the battery.

I have some ecmspy backups:

1st-eprom-save.epr 3/18/10
1st-eprom-save.txt 3/18/10

1st-map-save.msq 3/18/10
2nd-map-save.msq 4/19/10

thats all I have (plus the race/stock maps from 05, 06 & 07)

The idle adjust cable is definatly busted, thats why it was turning so loose. Hopefully, that was also why it was running so crappy. (intake partially/fully closed?) Dealer can't get me part till next week. Anyone have one handy?? (2006 XB12X)

The way I see, if I can get the cable, and a couple new sparkplugs... figure out ECMspy so thats back to normal I will save $$ plus more $$ having the dealer pick it up.

Any dealers here have 2 plugs and intake adjust cable shipped to my door?

Use anti-sieze on the new threads so it doesn't happen again.
As far as the maps, if this is a stock ecm then you can't put a race map in it because things are arranged differently on a race ecm. I would try and reinstall the original map that you should have saved before messing with changing anything. I am no expert on ecmspy so maybe others will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I read that somewhere, probably on www.buelletinboard.com . They have a lot of info on that sight. I tried to put an 07 map in my 06 ecm and it ran like crap!! I went back to stock and tweeked some of the fuel numbers and made a huge improvement. Still need to learn how to datalog!

Is it possible you had a fouled plug all along?

Ulynuy,.its possible. but it was running so good ...

I was trying to put in a racemap. But I also tried a regular map... at this point I dont recall what I did. I am pretty sure I burned or attempted to burn both eprom and maps, 1st from 06 race and 07 race,...then reloading my original saved map and eprom.

At that point the Idle cable broke... and was running very bad.

Here is video I recorded today. It's the last ride before (after attempting to load my original maps again) the battery lost too much juice. It stalls at my turnaround,..and then stalls again just before I parked it.

Sounds healthy when it's running, what you running for a muffler?

I should say...it was running perfectly until I started messing with the ecm.

1. Reseting the TPS
2. Adjusting the Idle
3. Try to load maps.
4. Try to load eproms.
5. Reset the TPS
6. Going for ride (runs terrible)
7. Reseting the TPS
8. Adjusting the Idle (I think this is where is broke?)
9. Try to load original saved maps.
10. Try to load original saved eproms.

Started it today and recorded that video. still runs like crap. I think I may need to try that exhaust leak test too.

Spec-Ops,... but its sounds like...or..
similar to: if you have a stock exhaust and open that valve permanently. There is a difference between those 2, and it's similar to the difference I hear now with my pipe:

1. Spec-Ops with bike running good and 2. Spec-Ops with bike running crappy. There is a similar difference there. I am thinking it could be a leak. I will have to check that.

I bet your broken idle adjuster is not letting you close the butterfly all the way, then when you reset the TPS, your throttle is really open some, but you told the ECM it's closed. If the TPS if off just a little bit, it really makes a difference.

I was hoping you'd say it was a Spec-Ops. I was planning to send mine off to Odie for his special treatment at the end of this "riding season".

I hope your right Towpro, and thinking about the events and the way it happened .. I am leaning that way. (although it still could be something else too) I did get an O2 sensor error after it was running bad. (I just cleared it with ecmspy) I just need to find a new cable.

Rwven, I love the sound of the Spec-Ops. I would have sent my original in but it's my only transportation and I found a good deal here in Badweb.

Reinstall backup eeprom copy. The correct TPS-ZV is still stored in that one.

I have done a TPS reset in the past and made the bike run worse. I found that there was carbon build up on the throttle plate, it was not allowing a true "0", but it felt like it was. A couple of shots of carb cleaner and reset it again and all was well.

Go over your instructions for the TPS reset again, step by step, make sure your procedures are correct. Including being warmed up fully.

Ok... I have my battery all charged up and ready but first have a few Q's:

my Idle cable is snapped...
Can I still adjust the idle for the TPS and keep it running ok without the cable? (just till I can get a new on shipped to me in 3-5 days)
And... Is it an easy piece to install... ???

excellent!!
I was able to reload my original eprom, it set my idle at 3k, ... then I reset the TPS and ... of course it dropped to 0.0 so it would not stay running. I just sent a pic up to youtube of my tent and the rub mark from the cable...on the head.

Thanks Gunter. I always wondered about that.

I got ECMspy because my TPS 0 was wrong.
First I made a backup of everything (just like the directions say!)

Then I reset my TPS.
At some point I needed to reinstall my backups and I noticed the TPS was wrong again. I had a feeling the TPS 0 was a saved value, now I know for sure : )

Id073897: It WORKED!!!
Etennuly : THANKS!!!

My bike is finally back to "PRE_SCREWUP"!!!

Here is the stub left for me to turn:

cablestub

Had to use normal vicegrips, 1/4 turn at a time. After reloading my saved eprom, the TPS % was at 11.1 and I used the grips to bring it down to 5.1

Here is my workshop (too sunny for laptop)

Not too bad, with you guys (BadWeb) helping me, a few cups of coffee it took me about 2 hours to fix it today. Thanks again!!! Now I can order the new cable... (um.. looks like a real PITA to install imo) Well, here is some video of my repair today:

A closeup of the busted idle cable and a startup after reloading the original eprom. Idles at 3k, TPS % was 11.1 :

I reset the TPS, it changed the % to 0.0 and no idle. (thats why it stalled) I then loaded the backed-up eprom again and I am back to 3k idle:

Took it apart and used visegrips on what was left of the Idle cable (1/4 turn at a time) to set the TPS % back to 5.1 :

FINISHED!!! NOW FOR THE TEST RUN!!!.............

Dude, you gotta head light out!
Glad you figured it out. Once you get the new idle screw, anti-sieze it and get the bike hot then back it off, make sure your throttle plate is closed and then reset your tps. Then set your idle. Happy trails!

Thanks again everyone for helping me. ECMspy is a fantastic program,.. I jumped in too fast, looking at it like some computer program I can learn.... big mistake because this program very involved AND is connected to my bike!! DOH! Live and learn.

I only need to get the backfiring on decel down a little. Someone mentioned how to do that before but I can deal with it for now. It's not that bad. I am gonna wait a while before I attempt anything.
