Hi all,

As with many of you I also beleive the Uly could use some extra brightness.

I have been reading the multiple posts regarding aux lighting, and I really like the look of the PIAAs and so might as well get some extra lighting that looks good too right? I know that thier are other solutions that are brighter but I beleive that the PIAA 5xx should be bright enough and add to the look of the bike.

My question is do these 4" PIAAs 5xx series interfere with engine cooling? Right and left scoops?

Also any pics of these PIAAs mounted in the flasher/blinker mounts? I only seem to be able to find smaller ones mounted in the flasher mounts.

Any long term issues with mounting aux lighting in these mounts?

Mount above or below the scoops and then don't worry about it.

Oops, didn't read the second part of your question...

I would strongly advise you to fabricate some kind of "light bar" mount that can be bolted between the front fender and fork crosspiece. Much more stable. A number of owners (including myself) have done that.

Just get HID's. Aux lights are a waste of money and real estate.

I've got the 510's on mine. No issues and they look great. Froggy is partly right, in that they don't turn the night-time into day, but I installed them to make the bike more conspicuous to crossing and left turning traffic not so much to improve night driving. The HID's I installed in my headlights take care of the night driving part.

Ive got Wallmart($19)driving lights mounted under my turn signal stalks.I might have $35 in the whole set up & it works great.

Not PIAAs, but...





4" Hella Optilux, mounted to turn signal holes. As you can see, nowhere near scoop airflow. Rock solid mounting, no drilling required.

I wonder if i could screw in some PIAAs into the flasher mounts? I like the black grill

btw, Ratbuell how do you like your CR mirrors?

And is that a cee baily screen? I thought they were black or something like that? had to replace flyscreen or someting of the like?

Love the mirrors, just got another set for either the S1W (currently with bar-ends), or for her Blast or M2L (mainly for signal visibility for her).

Yep, CeeBailey. With Testors plastic model rattlecan paint (see your local hobby shop) in Ford orange, either Hugger or Grabber (I can never remember which is the right name, but the color dot on the cap will make it clear, one is MUCH brown-er). I use the CB in winter, stock flyscreen with stock UlyX short windscreen in warmer (above 40) weather. I did drill/tap/helicoil the six mounting screw holes in the dash, and switched over to larger hex head screws from the hardware store - the repeated in/out had pulled threads out of a couple of the aluminum holes, the helicoils should live much longer. And the stock small buttonhead hex screws rounded out from repeated use, too...

Oh I see thx for the info.

Mine is barricade as well (sounds better than orange).

But I think I will have some custom painting done to it.

I'm thinking of a black flyscreen and airbox with 2 bronze race stripes (same colour as the headers) with a thin white outline.

I took the PIAA 510's and mounted them on the fork legs with a pair of these (turned sideways 90 degrees):

They are holding up very well as I am near the end of the first week of a three week trip with about a 1000 miles on them so far.

They are mounted low (just above the front fender) and give me good coverage along road shoulders. I also notice that I can see street signs (road name signs, not the normal big road signs) better.

Other drivers comment that the light signature is impressive in traffic but that I seem to have a light out in my headlamp.

Grrrrrr.

I was noticing that my PIAA's were no lower than the headlamps on most sedans on the road (compared them to a few parked cars the other evening in the parking lot of the hotel I'm staying in this week).
