Had my '06 for a year now and it's always been plagued with a rough spot @ 2-3 k, distinct pinging when rolling on hard anywhere below 4k, and (little did I know) no real midrange. Dealer tried many times to fix but said this was how it should run and everything was in spec. While doing the comfort kit I took some extra time to put a few more holes in the airbox cover, put my Irridium plugs back in ( the dealer replaced them with Harley plugs as if that was the problem, and then charged me for them even though it ran worse) and drilled out the stupid rivets and set my timing back a half a notch. Wow! no more ping, roll-on power in any gear, and a great "throaty" intake sound. It's like somebody flipped on the "hooligan" switch.
Now my question, will switching to a K&N airfilter make a noticeable difference?

A little CF vinyl on the timing cover

GREAT NEWS We have a winner.
I have a K&N in my 08XT and could feel it.
I wish I could reset my timing.

Good to know!
I'll probably go that way when it's my time for a new filter.
I've had one on my X1 for about 70,000 miles.
Pretty nice being able to wash and re-oil it like that.

K&N lets more air in...and more dirt. Seen the tests.

More dirt? I thought being "oiled" they trapped more, where could I see the tests?

I wouldn't put a K&N on a dirtbike or quad but I feel that it would be just fine for the street.
My X1's throttle body is always squeeky clean when I rub my finger down there when I do the filter clean and re-oil ritual.

I will get one when my warranty is done in May : )
